3.6 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
UPDATED: NOV 1, 2005 Very large lasting off-white head over deep brown (close to muddy rudy) beer. Interesting nose boarders on dank, maltyness. The flavor is exactly like what Aurelius says... "Tootsie Roll." The hops make little to no show here. Malty, malty, malty. And "YES!" I give it tons of points just because I can. This beer is underrated, and those who had "slight malts" or "little head" out of this brew must have sampled older bottles.
This is the best beer I’ve had by Carolina Beer Company, but that’s not saying much. This brown is OK. There were hints of roasted malts, the appearance was dark, on the border between brown and black, and the taste was palatable. I was able to drink it and I’m not a fan of dark beers. There was steady carbonation and nice head retention, some lacing on the glass (although I don’t care about that, thought I would mention it). Overall, an OK beer. chandler0201 (650) - Durham, North Carolina, USA - SEP 6, 2011
Hint of malts in the aroma, flavor has hint of chocolate but a lot of water and carbonation. Very weak and flavorless. Strykzone (7430) - Wood River, Illinois, USA - JUL 22, 2011
14 oz glass at the Charlotte airport. Cloudy tea colored brown hue with a soapy beige head. The nose is slightly nutty but is faint. Flavor is also nuts with soggy grassy hop notes. Occasionally some cocoa peeks its head up. The balance wavers and alternates between malt and hops. In the endvitbis grassyband a bit sour. An ok brown but no better than that. THOUGHTS: Not bad flavor wise at first. Kind of interesting really but it became cloying and unbalance. I wouldn’t mind drinking it as a knock back a few kind of way but it fails on the the sitting there and analyzing it style that I use for rating. Very flavorful, but a little too much like drinking candy, which is especially bad for something that was so thin. The slight sourness wan’t enough to balance the sweetness, which is something that bitterness could have easily achieved.
TECHNICAL: Bottle. Poured a medium to dark orangey brown with red highlights and an average to large, tan head that mostly diminished and left fair to good lacing. The aroma was overly sweet and had moderate to heavy molasses and caramel; lighter mild and strong coffee; light hops; grape, apple honey, maple syrup, fruit, something slightly off, but interesting that I couldn’t put my finger on it and ever so slight vinegar. The initial flavor was moderately to rather sweet and ever so slightly sour; while the finish was heavily sweet, lightly sour, and slight to lightly bitter with an average to long duration. The flavor was overly sweet ad a bit cloying by the ned. There was caramel, candy, honey, hints of coffee, apple grape, a bit of raison or prune, maple syrup, and molasses, but it was all a bit watery and then a little bit of bitterness from the hops, but it was not enough to balance things out. The light to medium body was watery and oily with carbonation that was bit soft, but still tingly and an ever so slightly metallic finish. jeremytoni (3079) - Swedesboro, New Jersey, USA - NOV 21, 2010
From a bottle poured a brown color with a fair amount of head. Nice malty sweet flavor with a ligering aftertaste.

The last bottle of this I had I remembered enjoying a hell of a lot more. Maybe I’ll review a fresher bottle sometime in the future.

Drank from the tap at the brewery. Aroma is bready, sweet malts. Taste is bitter at first, fades to nutty malts and then a dry finish. Flavors are a little unbalanced.
