Keg at the brewpub. Clear dark red, large creamy tan head. Good retention. Aroma of roasted malt, dark chocolate, ashy notes, coffee. The taste is chocolate, roasted malt, dark fruits, mild coffee and caramel. Thin-medium bodied, mild lingering bitterness, high carbonation.

This one is good...excellent as a matter of fact. Pours obsidian with medium dark tan head. Aroma of roasty, toasty malt and chocoff. Very rich taste with chocoff, some roast malt, and hints of anise. Complex and well balanced, with a dry, peuso hoppy finish. World class.

decaturstevo (6254) - decatur, Tennessee, USA - FEB 25, 2009
Black pour with tan head and lace. Light coffee aroma and toasted maltiness a hint of hops as well. Nice burnt coffee and a medium bitter followed by good carbonation and med/full palate make this a real good beer for me.

Draft at brewpub. Pours black with a thin khaki head. Sort of thin Mouthfeel. Nice roasted malt and chocolate nose on the nose. Lots of cocoa on the tongue. Finishes clean and tight. Just a lovely beer.

At the brewery. Dark brown/black pour with a thin tan head. The aroma is light chocolate, grainy, coffee. Subdued nose and flavor. grainy, weird upfront taste, a little bitter, chocolatey. Mediocre palate. Maybe i’ll try it again.

TURDFERGUSON (4058) - Durham, North Carolina, USA - MAR 22, 2007
From the growler brought to the Carolina tasting. Thanks Todd! pour was very black with a balanced roasted malt, chocolate, and creamy flavor. Hops noted, but do not take away from the rich roastiness that makes this beer. Roasty without being bitter. The best beer I have ever had from Carlina Brewery, Impressive.

GeneralGao (3614) - Iowa City, Iowa, USA - AUG 13, 2005
Draught at the brewpub in Chapel Hill. Black with thin brown head. Coffee and chocolate aroma and flavor. Slightly sweet. Modertaely carbonated. Wish they would nitrogenate it.

OldGrowth (3474) - the Containment Area, North Carolina, USA - APR 9, 2007
Pint@ brewpub. Good aroma. Very dry viney chocolately. Blackish brown color, small head, that lasted a bit. Good lace. Bitter flavor. Again a grapey, vineous, chocolately. Medium body, smooth watery mouthfeel, bitter fruity finish. Nice easy to drink stout. Could sip all day. Really was liking the grape I was getting as it warmed.

tronraner (2459) - Walland, Tennessee, USA - JUL 24, 2007
Draught at the brewpub. Pours dark brown with beige head. The aroma is cold coffee, cola, and brazil nuts. The flavor reminds me of Coke Blak (that Coca-Cola and coffee mixture stuff), but not as carbonated. Grainy sweetness throughout, slightly metallic finish.
