Amber in color with a nice caramel malt flavor. It has some small hop compliment but not to over do it. Very drinkable beer and a nice seasonal beer. emacgee (4675) - Chapel Hill, North Carolina, USA - SEP 26, 2008
Pours a copper orange with a one finger frothy pale yellow. The aroma is light and malty, has a mild sweetness, crisp dry bitterness, lagered, earthy. DukeBrewDevil (732) - Chapel Hill, North Carolina, USA - NOV 16, 2007
Draft. Golden color, fizzy head, big soda-like bubbles visible within the beer. Sweet smelling lager with caramel notes. Tasty and sweet. I get a bit of honey, especially in the aftertaste. Even a hint of peppery spice. JCB (3999) - Durham, North Carolina, USA - NOV 3, 2007
On draft. Deep amber, modest head, and faintly malty aroma. Lightly hopped (floral) and quite drinkable, this one is fine but leaves little impression. GeneralGao (3614) - Iowa City, Iowa, USA - OCT 22, 2005
Draught. Clear amber color with thin off white head. Not much nose, a bit of roasy malt. Caramel, spicy flavor without much hop flavor or bitterness. Not bad.

UPDATED: NOV 8, 2005 Keg. Pretty amber with a white head. Very smooth drinking, but with the signature Carolina hop character and bitterness. Perhaps a little too much bitterness, but not unpleasant. Aroma was very light. Citrus perhaps? Maltyness was the highlight; tasted right for cold weather. Warming effect was unexpected. scotchzombie (589) - Raleigh, North Carolina, USA - OCT 13, 2013
Pours mostly clear copper amber. With a frothy off-white head that settles to a fair coating for awhile and then a ring. Not much lacing. Aroma is a bit of skunky bread. Taste is more astringent than expected out of a 'fest. Some sweet caramel malt that is buried by earthy noble hop bitterness, but very little flavor on the front of the palate. There is some nice nuttiness towards the finish. Mild carbonation and quite dry. I think Carolina Pale Ale is a very nice local (Raleigh) session brew, but even for a fan of Oktoberfest beers, this is just mediocre.
