COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
There are pumpkin based flavors that are not pumpkin pie. With this in mind we set out to make an autumnal beer in the pumpkin tradition that wasn’t simply a typical pie-spiced beer. Looking to enhance the pumpkin’s naturally dry starchy flavors, we roasted its meat touched with orange oil, pink peppercorns and candied ginger. This was added to the mash of our high gravity cream ale recipe. We then took our soup inspired ale and aged it in our Scobeyville, NJ neighbors’, Laird’s, AppleJack barrels from last Halloween to this. Time in the Scobeyville wood has mellowed the peppercorns’ heat, orange zest, and sweet ginger bite and added the autumnal note of bushels of red apples. Drink Pumpkin Cream Scobeyville Wood because there are spices on the shelf behind the nutmeg and barrels beyond bourbon.

I didn’t get much of anything interesting from this, it kinda had a light creamy pumpkin ale quality but I certainly didn’t get much barrel quality and it wasnt as dramatically spicy as most pumpkin beers. Good, not great, draft at EBF 2014.

Growler shared by Troy. Nose is lightly spicy with some breast notes. Like pumpkin bread. Hazy light orange medium head. Taste is moderately bitter with a Pilsner taste. Not much barrel character. Meh.

Growler to glass. Pour is golden with lots of white head. Aroma is mix of spice and Pilsner malt. Taste is same, Pilsner and spice. Alcohol is well hidden, but missing barrel and pumpkin, just spice. Could be better.

Grolwer courtesy of Paul, shared at his house last night. Pour is much lighter than expected, gold with white head. Not a lot on the nose, definitely didn’t pick up pumpkin or wood, just some malt. Upfront there’s a bit of spice but not a lot, wouldn’t name pumpkin without knowing the name. Woodiness definitely comes through on the back end, gives it a nice fresh edge. No idea what scobeyville wood is but reminds me of cedar.

On tap at Irish Mile, pours murky hazy golden with small white head. Aromas are cinnamon apple, play doh, and other kinds of yeasty dough. Flavor is light Apple and spice with some heat. The brandy is definitely noticeable but alcohol hidden well for the most part....I think. Light pumpkin notes if any, more nutmeg. Just ok.

Tap at RnH, Nyc. Clear yellow color, small white head, lace. Aroma has pumpkin and berries. Light-bodied. Herbal, some sweetish berries, spices, pumpkin. Alcohol in the finish. Does not work for me.

Pouring at EBF 2014. Pours a clear gold with a thin white head. Pumpkin on the nose, cream, soft spices, vanilla and wood. Hints of apples, wood. Medium bodied, warm and full of barrel notes, wood and spice. Lively and spicy. Spices turn bitter and pick up some whipped cream notes. Very nice stuff.

Mini-Growler at New Years party. Pours out a hazy orangy color with a small white head. Aroma is of some spice, alcohol, barrels, sweet booze, some creamy notes and light spice (not too much pumpkin on the aroma. Taste has a lot going on, sweet creaminess, apple brandy, spices, alcohol, wood, light sweetness. Very intriguing.

Draft. Hazy gold/orange with a medium off white head. Aroma is pumpkin and popcorn. Taste adds a bit of booze, wood and apple. Medium mouthfeel and moderate carb. Not my favorite.

Growler. Hazy orange with a soapy head. Wood and apple aroma, maybe a hint of pumpkin. The taste adds sweet pumpkin notes with a creamy feel. Interesting but, not very good. Very underwhelming. --- Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone
