B.D.G. (Brunch. Dinner. Grub.) Brown Country Ale: Matching the right beer to the right food is a wonderful assignment. The contemplation of point and counter-point can can often be as much fun as the reward of good pairing. Sadly, in a life well lived there is not always time to contemplate what dinner will be, let alone what beverage will play best with it. Here we have selected malts to evoke the crusty breads that sit well next to every meal and seasoned it with the lemony,tarragon/thyme notes of Aramis hops. A go-to food friendly brown ale for the table. Drink D.B.G because you are what you eat... and drink.

pours a deep slightly cloudy brown color. aroma is caramel malts and toasted nuts. taste is pretty much the same. very drinkable coming in at the same abv (6%) as an IPA which to me is a above average for a traditional brown ale but it goes down smooth. definitely love supporting the local beer scene. cheers!

Draught. Clear dark amber with small off-white foamy head, molasses aroma, low carbonation, sweetish mocha taste, watery body, abrupt finish with little bitter aftertaste. Not so great.

Growler from Spirits Unlimited in Toms River, NJ. Mahogany brown color topped by a thick rocky beige head. Rich malty nose has hints of nuts, caramel and cocoa. Flavor follows the nose. Notes of herbal hops balance the big malt flavor. Additional notes of toasted bread and walnuts. Finishes with spicy hops and a chewy mouthfeel. This is very solid brown ale and a nice effort fron Carton Brewing.

Light aroma with a bit of hops. Medium brown color. Standard brown taste but that sounds like an insult. Roasted nut scent and taste, a touch of burning caramel are really the only description words to use. Really good. Tap.

Served on tap at Newark airport. Hazy orange golden color with a white head. Citrus hop orange aroma. Light body. Citrus and hops flavor. Tastes like a watered down version of an IPA. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Pours chestnut brown with a one finger tan head with pretty nice lacing. Aroma is of toasted malts, pine, caramel, sweet malts, citrus, toffee, and light coco. Taste is pretty similar to the aroma. Has a medium body with a semi creamy mouthfeel and a semi dry, semi-moderately bitter, medium-long finish. Overall, a pretty nice brown ale that is pretty hoppy and drinkable for the style.

On tap. Nice brown ale, almost a cross between brown and amber. Malty, crisply hoppy, very slight peppery saison presence that I probably would have missed if they didnt call it a country ale. Malty finish.

From a growler purchased at Whole Foods Devon. Pours a moderate light, clear brown. Decent frothy white head. Aroma of wood chips and sweet tea. Mouthfeel is light to moderate with a nice amount of carb. Not creamy, but not watery either. Taste is slight malt, good amount of coffee but without the bitterness. I was actually surprised how much coffee flavor was in this. Little to no hops except for some bitterness. Easy to drink with some good flavor. I liked this one more than the numbers account for. Just a very good beer that can be enjoyed any time.
