At his restaurant, Eleven Madison Park, Chef Daniel Humm makes an extraordinary five spice roast duck. The genesis of Decoy is our notion that those spices would affectionate the fig notes of a Belgian Strong malt bill in the direction of a winter warmer. Cumin, coriander, lavender flowers, Sichuan red peppercorns and honey are added to Special B malts and Belgian candi sugars, with American ale yeast chosen because its esters enhance rather than dominate as would a Belgian. A strong, gently-spiced ale, Decoy is intended to sit next to or in place of a fire during the bracing cold of winter. Drink Decoy because life and spice...

Can thanks to Toastedpuppy. Clear copper red with small creamy beige head, caramel-nutmeg aroma, low carbonation, spicy (ginger, nutmeg, cloves) caramel taste, smooth thick body, long spicy finish. A real winter warmer, gave me a very nice warmth inside!

egajdzis (6589) - Pennsburg, Pennsylvania, USA - JAN 21, 2016
Hazy brown red color with a medium sized, light tan head that left nice lacing on the glass. Aroma of cinnamon, caramel, coriander, dark fruits, and alcohol. Taste of caramel, nuts, coriander, honey, and a spicy finish.

Maxbier (986) - Maryland, USA - MAY 13, 2015
Not boozy at all. Sweet up front, nice honey-malt character, some roast and coffee flavors. Very tasty, it would indeed go well with some duck or any fatty meat or cheese. Carton beer is so good.

closey22 (1946) - Mt. Laurel, New Jersey, USA - JUN 5, 2014

Brown concoction, sugary, ok drinkable. Brown colour, gummy spice flavour. On at Torst.

boxofrane (2553) - Spring City, Pennsylvania, USA - MAR 4, 2014
Draft at bistro on bridge. Pours hazy brown with minimal head. The aroma is not pungent but has some spice and nuts. The taste has a kick of cinnamon, some peppery notes. A bit boozy. Outside the box but not again.

NikkTwist (3225) - Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, USA - FEB 28, 2014
Draft at Eulogy. Cloudy copper pour with a large pillowy off-white. Mulled spiced apple pie. Hot pepper bread pudding. Some unusual notes but the flavors feel too muddled and unbalanced. Feels like there were two many chefs in the kitchen.

digrod (138) - Pennsylvania, USA - FEB 19, 2014
Draft at TJs. Pours Amber red with minimal head. Aromas of apple, raisins, plum. Tastes of apple pie, lots of spice, prunes. Finishes long and sweet. Great for the winter season.

jflopsu (1615) - New Jersey, USA - JAN 29, 2014
Pours a dark amber. Has a very unique aroma with heavy malt, dark fruit, and some spices. Taste is sweet and peppery, also with malt and dark fruits. That aftertaste is almost like sweet peppercorn.
