Growler from Super Buy-Rite in Monroe, NJ. Pours a deep copper color topped by a small creamy beige head. Toasted malt nose touches on earthy rye and faint caramel. First sip is tangy, nutty toasted malt with light bitter notes. Tastes like taking a walk in the woods in the fall as the leaves are starting to drop and the pine needles are drying out. Warming alcohol in midtaste. Spicy hop finish is appreciated. Toasty, piney, woody and definitely Cartonic. jflopsu (1617) - New Jersey, USA - APR 23, 2017
Pours a dark amber with light head. A caramel and malt aroma. A caramel malt, fruit, rye, and grain taste. A lingering grain and rye aftertaste. dagimp (1008) - Philly, Pennsylvania, USA - MAR 27, 2017
growler from Canal’s West Deptford, NJ. Pours a nice reddish hue with lots of sticky lacing. Spicy floral aroma. Mouthfeel is actually kind of light. Taste is pine hops with spicy rye. Rye is fairly mild but there’s no mistaking it. Solid beer, but not mind blowing. I’m a fan of rye beers and this did not disappoint at all. I’d buy a few cans of it if it were reasonably priced. trapped (3150) - New York, TURKEY - MAR 21, 2017
Draught @ Shannon Rose. Slightly cloudy reddish amber with small foamy beige head, faint floral aroma, medium carbonation, bitter taste on smooth caramel-rye base, thin body, long bitter caramel finish. Quite smooth and tasty. NikkTwist (3225) - Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, USA - MAR 11, 2017
UPDATED: MAR 11, 2017 Draft at Khyber Pass. Cloudy deep amber pour with off-white foam. Fairly malty IPA with complex hops and dark citrus flavors. Blood oranges. Tangelos. Caramel dipped pine needles. Sweetish but well balanced. Some peppery spice on the end.

UPDATED: APR 1, 2016 DATE: March 30, 2016... OCCASION: celebrating a gift card at the Tap House in Mansfield... GLASSWARE: 16 oz. pint... APPEARANCE: pours an off-white quarter-finger head that settles to a spongy resilience atop a dark maple brown... tracings are coral finger arcs... AROMA: pine and resin notes commandeer the senses... subdued pepper and licorice... caramel and bread dough.. PALATE:medium-bodied, textured at the start, and highly drinkable for an ale, even at 6.5% ...TASTE: the hop bomb explodes with resin and pine... some floral tones too, but the impressiveness of this beer is in its balance between spiciness and maltiness... malts provide a strong backbone to the hop-forward assault...actually, the spices are not so evident, which is part off what a rye is, no? OVERALL: slight loss of score comes when one realizes the rye is not the focal point--and returning home to read the brewer’s own deScription, I can see why... still, this is another celebration of the growing New Jersey brewing tradition...a spicy, strong, fulfilling ale... all the way to its bad-ass name....

Very light on aroma but that is the only negative. Hazy red in color and the hops hit the roof of your mouth. A nice red. Tap. BeerdedDave (1708) - Beckley, USA - JAN 4, 2016
