COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
This NW style sour ale blends wheat & blond ales that were oak aged in barrels for 6 mths, then additionally aged 4 mths on fresh blueberries. Huge herbal notes of dense blueberries in the nose give way to hints of oak & a dusty floral note. Rich earthy notes of dark fruit on the palate lead to a tart finish that dries out to a base note of blueberry skins.

Tap at Cascade Barrel House. 2014. Deep blueberry-stained red, cream foam. Waxy aroma, touch of earthy sour. Fruit skin. Best of the pure fruits on this night. But I’d be hard-pressed to say blueberry blind.

750ml corked bottle pours a reddish brown color when held to the light with a fizzy white head that leaves no lacing on the glass. Aroma is of dark fruit and musty yeast notes with hints of wood. Taste is a big tartness from the fruit and a malty sweetness underneath, finishing with a bit of yeast funk. Medium bodied with good carbonation. Overall, a very sour ale that takes some getting used to. Burns on the way down, but still a quality brew.

750ml C&C bottle. Ugly pour, light opaque maroon body with a smaller fizzy off white head. Aroma was blueberry muffin, cake batter, sour lemons, some odd Body Works blueberry hand sanitizer. Decent body, stronger bubbly carbonation, medium mouthfeel and a sour finish. Flavor is more sour than the aroma lets on. Blueberry, lemon, sourness, dry straw. Solid.

Nose is of fresh blueberry. Lactic sourness oak barrel and light sweetness. Nice reddish purple pour thin nonlasting head. Flavors of blueberry sweet tartness initially followed by medium lactic sourness oak light citrus more blueberry and a clean tart finish. Moderate carbonation little thin in body. Solid beer.

750ml shared by Madvike. Purple red, deep. Oily, thin head. Juicy, fruity. Some of that test tube US action, but juicy and nice, real fruity depth. Captures a mellow enjoyability not found in most US sours.

Bottle sample at a sour tasting at Noam’s office. Thanks DSG. Pours cherry with a pinkish head, aroma of blueberry, forest of the fruit sweetness, flavor is slightly sour with green tea, fart and wood, medium bodied.

(750ml bottle thanks to Nellie) clear, bright red, pretty colored beer. Nose of blueberry, stems, juniper, other tart fruit, light oak, and yogurt. Taste of tart blueberry, fruit comes through nicely, VERY light vinegar but present, more vinous and red winelike as it warms, tart/acidic linger, pretty nice fruit sour.

Thanks to 5000 for sending this bottle my way. Andre always is there with a great PNW hookup. Purple-blue pour with a white head. There is some nice blueberry notes in the flavor and aroma, but that is accompanied by some nice funk, vanilla and oak. There is some nice tartness but it is not overpowering and the fruit is still allow to come through. Quite complex. Medium mouthfeel and medium carbonation.

In short: A lightly funky, not-so-sour and very fruity ale with plenty of berries. Excellent
How: Bottle shared with friends, post Tap-NY 2012 Hotel party. Unfortunately a Danish-style sample on this one. Tick
The look: Cloudy dark red body topped by a small pink-ish head
In long: Nose is very fruity (all kinds of berries, not just blueberries) with a bit of funk. Taste is very fruity, sharp and clean, only a light sourness and mild lactic acidity. Oak remains discreet. This is as much a fruit beer (and an excellent one at that) as it is a Sour/Wild ale. Maybe because it was still young and the funk will transform the beer. I will eventually drink a full bottle of this and re-evaluate what it has evolved, but a fresh sample proved to be a superb mildly funky fruit ale. Anyway, it was well worth crushing thousands of blueberries to make this great beer, just like it was well worth drowning hundreds of babies to make that great Nirvana Nevermind cover.

Bottle (750 ml). Shared by David, thanks! Hazy purple with a small pink head that quickly dissipates and leave no lacing. Aroma is of intense blueberry jam, oak, acetic notes and herbal/floral presence. Taste is sligthtly sweet and moderately to heavily sour with blueberry jam again, lactic and acetic presence, wood and slight herbal/floral notes (mostly covered by the sourness). Medium body. Leaves the mouth dry. Not easy on the stomach, but really fun to try but all those blueberries! I liked it!
