COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
This NW style sour ale blends wheat & blond ales that were oak aged in barrels for 6 mths, then additionally aged 4 mths on fresh blueberries. Huge herbal notes of dense blueberries in the nose give way to hints of oak & a dusty floral note. Rich earthy notes of dark fruit on the palate lead to a tart finish that dries out to a base note of blueberry skins.

@ Avery Sourfest 2012. Clear bright red, as of it’s a classic Kriek. Aroma is funky wood and pale grains with a touch of fresh blueberries. Taste is nice and clean, medium sour and not too fruity. Notes of blueberry but also funky wood yeast. Big but restrained and fruity but not too much. Nice sweet/ sour balance.

Pour out of 750 mL bottle, big thanks to Caleb for this pour! 2011 bottle. Dark reddish blue with thin bluish red head, aroma brought notes of big blueberry pie, nice funk, cheese, hints of lactic lemon and slight biscuit malt notes. Taste is nice blueberry, sweet vanilla and pie like notes but sours fairly well with a slight funkiness to it, finishing fairly sweet but with a nice dry and lactic note.

Bottle. Pours almost purple, or maybe I’m just imagining that. Medium acidity, some solid blueberry sweetness, just a hint of funk, light candy sweetness, and a little tartness in the finish. Solid.

[5101-20130202] Bottle. Smoked blueberry chemical aroma. Hazy, bright red pink body with a medium-lasting white head. Sour blueberry fruity yeast flavour. Medium body is quite sour. Delicious, great balance. (7/3+/8/4/16) 3.8

Had both the older releases and the new Shrieking Violet on tap. Both were good. The aroma is sweet berries alongside vinous, woody notes. The flavor is borderline very sour at times with sawdust and light sour blueberry. Very odd but in a good way. Not a fruit beer per se, more oak and tannins. Quite nice.

On tap at Cascade. Pinkish with a small head. Mild aroma of blueberries, more in the taste. Also funk and oak. The finish was dry.

Bottle to snifter (brew3crew). Looks good; you can see the blueberry notes. Smells great; sour and fruity. Tastes good, but I think it will get better with age. Mouthfeel is good. Hella-tasty.

3/15/16. 750mL bottle from Craft on Draft. Dark blue/purple pour with a small, fizzy pinkish purplish head that sizzles away fast. The look plus my color blindness sorta makes it look like a glass of Diet Coke... but of course purple/blue when I look closer. Annnnnnyway... huge sour aroma, on par with other Cascades, leaning a bit towards acetic, though, tannic berries and dark fruits. Big sour flavor, acidic, citric, lactic, and acetic, etc. Blueberry, dark fruits, oak and vanilla, a touch musty, lingers very sour and dry.

It pours sort of dirty rutty red copper with thin off white head, cool looking brew. The aroma offers up tartness o-plenty along with thin whiffs of vague fruitiness almost too far away to smell. The taste is similar as this is largely acidic, dry mineral notes and crushed aspirin tartness. I suppose, like the nose, there are light vaguely fruity notes off in the distance that I’m having trouble seeing or tasting, so there’s that.
