Cascade Barrel House, Portland. Dark, opaque brown, super creamy lacto-porter, acidic, tart, big sour. Good vanilla-oak over top. Heavy, lactic, huge tart. Enamel cleaner. Big, tasty. Odd. Crazy.

Served in a snifter. Pours a somewhat-dark brown color with a bit of a crimson hue. Slight retention as well as a nice cap as it settles down. The nose brings forward a sourness as well as some funk and oak. Strong lactic character. A bit of bourbon. The flavor is quite strong with some bourbon, booze, and a bit of a sour character. The flavor and feel have a bit of a strange astringency plus quite a bit of booze. Very odd indeed. I did not like this nearly as much as the Vlad. Probably my least favorite Cascade beer to date. Sampled at the Kick Starter event at the Humboldt Cider Company to help fund their new tasting room. Pours near black with a light tan head. Nose of funk and oak, along with some fruit and chocolate. Full body, Rich mouth feel. Flavor is a lot of wine barrel and the sourness is very present and this carries over to the finish. I really liked this.

Finally popped this 09. Has held up nicely. Clean rich garnet brown with a thin fizzy tan head. Big nose, dark fruits and some alcohol show with a noticeable acidity and touch of spice. A lot going on in the flavor, booze shows and the acidity is upfront with rich dark fruit tones on the finish. Medium bodied and warm on the way down

Bottleshare thanks to dextercat. Nose is moderate bourbon with a light tartness. Some light choco flavor. Medium off white head. Taste is moderate bourbon and vanilla with a smooth malt richness. Light alcohol warming. Holy cow this is good!

UPDATED: MAY 29, 2015 Dark brown body, off-white head, spotty lacing. Quad like dark fruits, a little bourbon-booze, and oak. Some leather, must, and vinous notes are also present. Medium bodied, silky feel on the tongue, moderate acidity and sourness are in each sip. Only a little residual heat. Quite nice.
