Sampled at GABF on 9/16/2010. This sour ale pours a medium brown color. Small sized white foamy head. The aroma is dark fruit, tart, wood and a hint of bourbon. A medium bodied sour ale. The malts are fruity and sweet, yet still pretty tart as well. The hops are herbal. Lots of bourbon and wood. Nice balance. Good carbonation. Nice tartness, good cherry flavors. Mouthfeel is full. Finish is clean and smooth. Aftertaste is tart.

Sampled at the Kick Starter event at the Humboldt Cider Company to help fund their new tasting room. Pours near black with a light tan head. Nose of funk and oak, along with some fruit and chocolate. Full body, Rich mouth feel. Flavor is a lot of wine barrel and the sourness is very present and this carries over to the finish. I really liked this.

750 ml bottle. Shared by Max. Pours a hazed deep amber woody brown with a thin head. Aroma is tannic- woody, earthy bourbon barrel- hints of oaky vanilla, toast, wild brett, light lacto and bacteria- sour notes, wine-like, and grapeskin with slight burnt roasty hints. Flavor is light ashy chocolate, then wine-like acidity and woody barrel- bourbon is noticed but subtle mixed in with the sourness and malts- dusty earthy and good grapey tannic and acidic finish. Good stuff. Wouldnt think this would work but it did.

Served in a snifter. Pours a somewhat-dark brown color with a bit of a crimson hue. Slight retention as well as a nice cap as it settles down. The nose brings forward a sourness as well as some funk and oak. Strong lactic character. A bit of bourbon. The flavor is quite strong with some bourbon, booze, and a bit of a sour character. The flavor and feel have a bit of a strange astringency plus quite a bit of booze. Very odd indeed. I did not like this nearly as much as the Vlad. Probably my least favorite Cascade beer to date. Finally popped this 09. Has held up nicely. Clean rich garnet brown with a thin fizzy tan head. Big nose, dark fruits and some alcohol show with a noticeable acidity and touch of spice. A lot going on in the flavor, booze shows and the acidity is upfront with rich dark fruit tones on the finish. Medium bodied and warm on the way down
