Taster at Amnesia Winter Ale Festival. More like a chocolate stout than a Cascadian, but that’s not necessarily a bad thing.

gyllenbock (9177) - Stockholm, SWEDEN - MAR 9, 2016
On tap at Cascade. Black with a small head. Aroma and taste of roasted malt, ash, hops and coffee.

"Called Darkest Day cascadian dark ale. Nice combo of coffee, chocolate and orange peel. More bitter than sweet but a little of both. Smooth rich body and flavor. Solid!"

Gription79 (2891) - Bountiful, Utah, USA - JAN 18, 2014
Had on draft at yhe brewpub. Tropical/citrus fruits, a bit of dry roasted malt notes, soft bready malt notes, chocolate, resinous. Not a bad CDA.

OK

luttonm (6273) - Seattle, Washington, USA - DEC 29, 2013
Draft at The Sixgill in Fremont, WA. Hazy black, foam. Interesting black IPA, on the roasty side, a bit muddled, but subtle and strong. Sweet mix. Nice enough.

3.3
trevor211 (1681) - Seattle, Washington, USA - DEC 29, 2013
Cola brown. Nutty, slightly tinny aroma - not a big hop presence in here. Flavor follows suit. Really low on hops for a black IPA. Roasty malts cover what hops may once have been there. Tinny nuttiness dominates. Meh.

3.8
douglas88 (9180) - Portland, Oregon, USA - DEC 28, 2013
Pint at Racoon Lodge. Pours a deep pitch black color with a large beige head. A nice fruity nose with chocolates. The flavor is bitter fruity hops, dank hemp, pine, cocoa and dark chocolates. Very good.

3.7
mcberko (17830) - Vancouver, British Columbia, CANADA - DEC 28, 2013
On tap at Cascade, pours a deep dark mahogany / near-black with a medium tan head. Aroma brings out roasted malt, toasted crusty bread, and some dry hopping. Flavour is similar, with a good balance between roasted malt and dry hops, with a little bit of a fruity kick, and a buttery mouthfeel. Great black IPA.

3.6
riversideAK (6261) - Shoreline, Washington, USA - FEB 17, 2013
Roasted malts on the nose, floral hops a little ashy notes, some oily dank resins as well. Pours black with a nice tan head. Flavors of roasted dark malts a little patent ashiness, earthy dank oily hop resins and some floral notes. Chewy roast and bitterness in finish. Decent but somewhat subdued.

3.7
Crit (3996) - Surrey, British Columbia, CANADA - JAN 2, 2013
Black, lasting tan head.Light dry roast/dry malt nose.Palate is more roast and earthy.Medium strength long bitter hop finish
