From a 12oz. bottle--Poured a thin brown burnished body. Some sharp malts, but surprisingly more hoppy and floral than I expected. Very enjoyable beer!

Tap @ Flying Pie - Meridian: Super light color and surprised this is even called a brown ale. Sadly, even Newcastle brown is better than this. This is more like a thick dark lager. Meh.

Sham (1844) - Seattle, Washington, USA - MAR 8, 2005
Amber, almost brown with a frothy white head and nice lacing. Caramel and some roast. Flowery hops with some citrus. Slightly nutty. Nice tones of caramel and roast. Earthy and nutty with just a touch of bitterness. Nice palate with a malt finish.

Had a mild hop aroma, probably from the centennial. Color was a dark clear brown. Taste was mediocre and not too complex. Fades into an unruly hoppy bitterness in the finish.

Beardface (1517) - Eugene, Oregon, USA - JUN 27, 2009
12 oz bottle shared with my buddy Nick. Light brown pour with a small tan head. Aroma is caramel malt with some slight roast and chocolate. Flavor pretty much identical, the caramel malt being the most prominent feature. Slightly dry finish.

Roasted malt backbone, nut and subtle wood accents. Sweet caramel note sewn in to a smooth, creamy silk body.

Bottle with Carla. Pours a very bubbly light brown/red with large white bubbles. Smells lightly sweet of caramel. Tastes very sweet with hints of chocolate, caramel and light bitterness.

AlabastorJones (814) - Seattle, Washington, USA - JAN 31, 2005
Clear ruby color with a thin white head ring, skanky malt nose, slight bitter finish, thin mouthfeel, buttery, malts are off a little, dry, heady label.

carboloader (674) - Houston, Texas, USA - JUL 4, 2008
Visited the brew pub in Bend, OR. Pours reddish brown with small white head. Slight malt, some sweetness, but otherwise seems bland and thin to me.

spikester (606) - Salem, Oregon, USA - APR 22, 2008
Poured reddish brown with minimal head and some lacings. Sweet aroma, brown sugar. Taste is sweet malts, brown sugar, toasty. Hops are a minor player but nicely bitter. Good dry finish. Overall pretty good example of the type. Will try a draft version sometime.
