COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
If you’ve visited Bend’s pub-centric Westside or rode the nearby trails, you’ve seen the Phoenix Rising. In the same creative and inventive spirit, we offer IRA. Inspired by the IPA category, this ale is high in hops and caramel flavors from Munich and crystal malts. Cheers to artists like Frank Boyden who’ve made Bend a bit more colorful. Grains: 2-Row, Munich, Crystal Hops: Warrior, Willamette, Cascade & German Tettnager Available: Jun 1 – Sept 1 Available seasonally in 12 oz bottles, draft

Overall just average, but it is tasty, and you can run through quite a few of them pretty quick.

Bottle from Walmart, Portland
Hazy amber color. It has some caramel aroma and flavor, but unfortunately it’s rather stale and it has also light sourness, probably infected.
Not very good.

Pours coppery with an off-white head. Aroma is malt, sweet citrus, floral, slightest bit of dried fruit. Taste is malt, a bit of caramel, herbal, orangey, light bitterness. Medium body. Had this one at a wedding and it really hit the spot, then I had a bottle later (more sober...) and it was still solid but not quite as amazing.

This one pours amber red, somewhat akin to a weak iced tea. The head is nice; a full, soft foam, but this dissipates quickly, leaving a ring at the glass and a trace on the surface. First aroma is an acrid hay with a dough backdrop, not pleasant, and not enticing. The first sip brings an acknowledgment of the aroma; very dry, and coating my tongue with a very baseless bitter. Not flavorful, and not exciting. I certainly won’t buy it again. The bland is overpowered by the dryness and acridity. Pouring.

Bomber from Bert’s. A tangy amber ale, some sweet malts, some bitter hoppiness. Clear caramel / orange color, small creamy beige head. Aroma is mostly hops, sweet malt taste follows, finish is mild bitterness.

somewhere between an amber and an ipa. too hoppy for one, too light for the other, though a pleasant enough beer overall. balanced and lightly floral.

Wonderfully intriguing. Truly half parts red ale and IPA. The maltiness that starts is all red ale flavor, but without the instringency that I find sometimes in that style. Then, the flavor profile shifts to IPA -- a bit of resiny hops, with a requisite amount of bitterness. Kudos for imagination, and successful execution.

Decent to pretty good. Mild sweet and hoppy aroma. Cloudy, almost dirty amber color. Not the most attractive beer. Palate was somewhat heavy but smooth. Carbonation was good. Good blend of caramel maltiness with a subtle but strong bitterness that flowed through each sip. Good first impression of the brewery.

Bottle. Had this a few times now. Nice and malty up front with a pleasant and full hopped up red in the back. Good and properly priced brew.

22oz bottle in Seattle. Deep orange, creamy body. Sweet orange candy malt aroma, carries through to the main flavor which is hard orange candy, something artificial about it. Juicy hops and caramel medium malts add up to a strange beer with big juicy alcohol. Tasty enough, but doesn’t quite add up.

Bottle in Hood River. Nice simple red ale that was a real easy drinker. Would have this again.
