Clear red brown pour some thick head. Aroma of burnt lactic caramel. Tastes the same + some smoke. It is both bitter and sweet, though I’d hesitate to call it well balanced. It’s sorta lacking in the smoothness department. watery and sticky on the palate too. pdx77 (1483) - Oregon, USA - OCT 18, 2013
From bottle. Amber color. Malty aroma with grassy hops. Taste is also malty with pine and grass hops. Finishes with a nice balance of the malts and hops. 5000 (6862) - Hardened Liver, Washington, USA - APR 28, 2013
Bottle:   Garnet colored, moderate to large frothy sandy head, very nice lacing.   Very soft bistuity malt
like nose.   Smidgen of whole wheat bread like grains.   Smooth on the tongue, yet not heavy.   Nice malt base,
fairly biscuity without being cloying.   Very clean overall.   For a style that I am not too keen on, this one I am
really enjoying.   Wow, yeah, very clean and crisp.   Never thought I would say this, but very refreshing for an
English Strong Ale.   Moderate body, smooth almost velvety mouthfeel.   A touch of warming on the backside. &nbps
Seems pretty simple, yet very well put together.   Very slight hint of some medicinal alcohol at the exit, but its
minor.   This is one biscuity yet not cloying ESA.   I like it! BrewDad (5328) - Olympia, Washington, USA - APR 20, 2013
Amber in color, clear with a thin head. Nice Bittering hops flavor and finish. Nice average English strong ale. Nice beer for a cold day. KansaiBeerLvrs (5141) - Kyoto, JAPAN - MAR 12, 2013
A bottle from Yamaichi via rakuten. I guess the low marks had me not expecting so much so I was pleasently surprised when I pour a wonderful reddish brown beer with a weak head. It has a great malty aroma of caramel & toffee. The flavor is really nice, it starts off with sweet flavors from the malts: toffee, caramel, figs, etc. It’s then followed by a dry hoppy finish but the pine flavor of Cascades is really muted. All in all I really like this beer!

Thin head on a dark copper colored body.
Smell is a faint dark fruit, mostly plum.
Taste is dark fruit sweetness with mild bitterness. Good balance.
Slightly fizzy texture, moderate carbonation and medium body, but with a sticky feeling.
Nice with good flavors, though lacking in the aroma area. Aubrey (3516) - Bellingham, Washington, USA - DEC 20, 2012
Sweet and wholesome malt-forward brew with hints of Hawaiian bread, caramel and syrup. A little too sweet for me, though it does have a slight hop snap. Sweetness lingers and reminds me of sugarcoated pine and gummy candy. OK beer, but not overly exciting or festive. BK7 (773) - Turner, Oregon, USA - NOV 30, 2012
Bottle. Roasted malts, chocolate and oranges. Spicy notes in the background. Sweet creamy finish. BillKismet (4057) - Seattle, Washington, USA - NOV 18, 2012
Amber colored, with rocky beige head. Toasted amber and chocolate malt nose, quite nice. Flavor is similarly toasted amber malt, with nibbets of chocolate mixed in. Easy sipper that seems closer to 5.5% than 6.9% ABV. This is a solid toasted amber brew. Shink (177) - Portland, Oregon, USA - NOV 12, 2012
Out of the bottle from Fred Meyer. Pours a dark brown with a very small head. Smell is a little grainy as well as the taste. Pretty average beer all around.
