Manhattan NW, a NW style sour ale that was, until recently, a secret. Its a blend of Blond Quad aged in Heaven Hill Bourbon barrels on 150 pounds of sour pie cherries for five months before additionally aging on apricot noyaux for three months. Aromas of cherries, Bourbon, sweet candy and hints of spice are noticed up front. Tart cherry skins and Maraschino cherries on the palate lead to a dance of rich cherry notes that are followed by slight Bourbon sweetness. Much like the process to make fission, the steps involved here are greater than the sum of their parts. What isnt a secret? At 11.32% ABV, youre going to need a designated driver

light red in color with a softer than expected nose of cherries and vanilla, oak and a little bourbon. The cherry/vanilla combo makes it seem like their is strawberry in the nose and flavor. My bottle wasnt 11.3% but close to 10. Impressively no heat from that. Very sour on the palate, not overly so, but acidic for sure. Good stuff.

750ml, caged and corked bottle. Poured a rubish color with a pinkish head. Cherries, wood/oak, cherry pie, vanilla, and fruits.

750ml corked bottle pours an orange amber color with a finger and a half of white head that leaves some nice lacing on the glass. Aroma is cherries with some yeast funk and hints of bourbon. Taste is sour cherries and lemon with a bit of alcohol burn in the finish. OMG, I am starting to get used to these sours and saisons and whatever these brewers are making these days. But, where are all those Imperial stouts, DIPAs and barley wines I love so much.

On Tap at Bier:Thirty, Boise. Hazy red fruit punch color. Some coarse white ring bobbles, lots of sour cherries on the nose. Flavors as well are cherries and some warm soft flavors that round it out nicely. Plenty sour, yes, but full bodied and other soft fruit flavors that mellow everything out. Very good, complex but mellow fruit sour.

7/21/16. 750mL bottle from Five Points. For $35 fucking dollars. Seriously, wtf? Red pour, looks about like red Kool-Aid, I had to pour hard to get any semblance of a head, and there was a little, but it sizzled away quick. Not surprising given the acidity and ABV, I suppose. Whiskey is apparent on the aroma, loads of cherries, lots of sourness, some other fruits. Super sour flavor, very sour, tons of sour cherries, undertones of whiskey, tobacco, oak, leather, fruity. Like a super sour cherry sour in the bright ways but also those nice undertones of a complex Flanders or something. Interesting, tasty, very sour, and too damn expensive, but still delicious.

Holy moly, this is an interesting beer. Really solid sour. Lots of cherry character, almost like a liquor. Some vanilla, honey, and sour apple. Tried at the Oedipus international beer festival in 2016 with Dave.

Draft at Oedipus fest. Aroma of bourbon, cherry, booze, vanilla and tart. Rich flavor of sour cherry, soft vanilla, more sourness and some tart strawberry. Liked it.

2014 edition on tap in June 2016 at the brewpub in Portland. Lovely red-orange body that sparkles with highlights and is covered by a fine white head. High level of tartness that goes well with the boozy (whisky) and fruity Some significant cherries in the aroma elevate the aroma well above an average sour.
