COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Manhattan NW, a NW style sour ale that was, until recently, a secret. It’s a blend of Blond Quad aged in Heaven Hill Bourbon barrels on 150 pounds of sour pie cherries for five months before additionally aging on apricot noyaux for three months. Aromas of cherries, Bourbon, sweet candy and hints of spice are noticed up front. Tart cherry skins and Maraschino cherries on the palate lead to a dance of rich cherry notes that are followed by slight Bourbon sweetness. Much like the process to make fission, the steps involved here are greater than the sum of their parts. What isn’t a secret? At 11.32% ABV, you’re going to need a designated driver

Rating #2207 – 2015.12.01 - #CraftBeerFantasyLeague Battle: Barrel-Aged Beauties – finished 6th of 9 entries. Pours a clear golden with a bubbly white head. Aroma is cherry, bourbon vanilla, spice, mild funk. Medium-high carbonation, medium alcohol warmth, decent body. Palate holds more barrel character, with loads of oaky character and sweet Cherry notes. Lovely.

Pours a clear pinkish red with a thin white ring. Nice sharp, crisp, tart fruity aroma. Taste is just like it smells. Nice full mouth feel and surprisingly smooth finish for how tart it is and how high the ABV is. Especially enjoyable.

From notes. This was shared at a tasting at Gus’s abode with several participants on September 10. 750 mL bottle. The pour is a clearish red color with a thin pink head that fizzles away to a thicker ring of foam. The aroma is wayy too bourbon forward for my liking. Shit. There is a good cherry to it, but the apricot is a little subdued. There is a sweetness on the back end from the barrel and a light funk to it. It’s not as sour as I’d expect. The flavor is just as rough. There is a lot of bourbon right up front that slowly transforms into a light cherry and spicy apricot flesh before returning to a strong woodiness and a heavy alcohol. The mouth feel is a little thicker than I would expect with a brighter carbonation and a lingeringly hot fruit on the finish. It’s not terrible, but damn, you get every bit of that 11.32%

Draft sample at Oedipus International Beer Festival 2016. Amsterdam, The Netherlands. 04.07.2016. Day Two. Pour it red color with small white head. Aroma of black currant, blueberries, spice little bit. Taste nice fruity feel, peach, blueberry, apricot, strawberry, bubblegum, basement aromas, spruce, medium sourness, cherry finish, medium to full body, thick feel, average carbonation, long finish. Nice!

Bottle shared with koleminer20, and Gus and others at the Unnamed Bottle Share. Aroma is cherry, apricot, sour, funk, tart, barrel, booze, good. Appearance is red, off white light pink head, mostly clear. Taste is cherry, apricot, barrel, booze, spice, tart, sour, dry, nice. Mouthfeel is medium body, light crisp carbonation, cherry apricot booze aftertaste. Overall, this is nice but hard to justify the price tag.

light red in color with a softer than expected nose of cherries and vanilla, oak and a little bourbon. The cherry/vanilla combo makes it seem like their is strawberry in the nose and flavor. My bottle wasn’t 11.3% but close to 10. Impressively no heat from that. Very sour on the palate, not overly so, but acidic for sure. Good stuff.

750ml, caged and corked bottle. Poured a rubish color with a pinkish head. Cherries, wood/oak, cherry pie, vanilla, and fruits.

750ml corked bottle pours an orange amber color with a finger and a half of white head that leaves some nice lacing on the glass. Aroma is cherries with some yeast funk and hints of bourbon. Taste is sour cherries and lemon with a bit of alcohol burn in the finish. OMG, I am starting to get used to these sours and saisons and whatever these brewers are making these days. But, where are all those Imperial stouts, DIPA’s and barley wines I love so much.

IndianaRed (5060) - Boise, Idaho, USA - AUG 4, 2016
On Tap at Bier:Thirty, Boise. Hazy red fruit punch color. Some coarse white ring bobbles, lots of sour cherries on the nose. Flavors as well are cherries and some warm soft flavors that round it out nicely. Plenty sour, yes, but full bodied and other soft fruit flavors that mellow everything out. Very good, complex but mellow fruit sour.

7/21/16. 750mL bottle from Five Points. For $35 fucking dollars. Seriously, wtf? Red pour, looks about like red Kool-Aid, I had to pour hard to get any semblance of a head, and there was a little, but it sizzled away quick. Not surprising given the acidity and ABV, I suppose. Whiskey is apparent on the aroma, loads of cherries, lots of sourness, some other fruits. Super sour flavor, very sour, tons of sour cherries, undertones of whiskey, tobacco, oak, leather, fruity. Like a super sour cherry sour in the bright ways but also those nice undertones of a complex Flanders or something. Interesting, tasty, very sour, and too damn expensive, but still delicious.
