COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
This beer shares a name with Peter Bouclaert, a friend and fellow sour beer appreciator. This is our inflection of a beer he used to make. This red ale was aged in oak barrels with cherries 12 to 18 months.

Very cloudy blood red with pretty much no head. Aroma is sour cherry, red currants, other red fruits. Medium bodied, lightly syrupy mouthfeel, sweet and sour on the palate with a good fruity character. Taste is blackcurrant, sour cherry, balsamic vinegar. Delicious.

Typical of Cascade sours and their cherry sours in particular, this is bracingly tart and not something I’d take more than 1 or 2 oz of ever again. Fortunately it was served in a small pour so I didn’t have to waste any. SSF 2012.

Oakes (18851) - Vancouver, British Columbia, CANADA - AUG 15, 2014
Dull light brown with red, barrel, touch of acetic, tons of tartness, barrels, different bugs, assertive brew for Duchesse fans.

On tap at Cascade, pours a murky dark mahogany with basically no head. Nose smells very vinegary, with tart cherries, followed by oak - dominated by vinegar. Flavour is insanely vinegary, mouth-puckeringly so, with tart cherries further back. Complex, but way too vinegary. A nice slow sipper, but it’s a bit difficult to drink.

Tap at CBH. Pours murky ruddy brown with no head. Sour red brown ale aroma. Med body. Very aceticly sour. Flavor is essentially Flemish red of the better sort. Finishes tart and sour. Delicious.

On draught at Cascade Barrel House. Deep dark maroon color. Aroma is sour basement funk, vinegar, and black cherry. Taste is funky tart vinegar, pie cherries, cinnamon, and plum. Intense sour pucker that remains on the fruity side.

At Cascade brewpub wih Taylor, Stephen, and Dina. Pours rose zero head. Aroma is medium to heavy acidity with some bandaide rubber, medical. Tangy dark fruits. Taste is acidic and bandaide rubber, blueberry pomogranate fruits. It’s one note and has some off flavor, but has some nice fruit notes too.

On tap at the brewery. Pour is murky maroon with a small white head that quickly dissipated. Red wine vinegar, caramelly, woody, dark fruits, grapey, and blueberry skins in the aroma. Taste is red wine, light vinegar notes, oaky, tannic, fruit skins, and raspberry skins with a moderately acidic finish. Medium body with medium carbonation. Decent sour brown.
