You can only get this stuff in Tassie and it tastes pretty much like Cascade Special Stout. This is a fine drop for the southern winter. bfgill (120) - Tasmania, AUSTRALIA - OCT 12, 2003

The best of the 'watery' stouts in Aystralia. You can taste it right from the word go. Afte taste is a little strong, but I love this stuff on a cold winter's night,
UPDATED: OCT 23, 2003 Dont be fulled, this is no lesser stout but just a little brother. Cascade special stout is just kept out of the publics greedy little hands for a little while - to let it develop further. Leave this one to cellar a bit and expect a much nicer drop, none the less not a bad effort. cheersWinchester (75) - Struggle Town NSW, AUSTRALIA - OCT 9, 2003

I quite like this stout. It is not exactly full bodied though and the head retention is quite low. However the faint coffee taste and the bitter aftertang make it quite a nice drop. A bit more body and it would be a very good drop. Id leave it to cellar a bit if you can control yourself. cheers
UPDATED: OCT 28, 2003 Although I quite like stout, this particular drop is overpowering. The scent and taste of strong coffee was too much for me. kook (2033) - Perth, Western Australia, AUSTRALIA - OCT 6, 2003
Pours deep dark brown, edging on black, with a beige-brown sudsy head. Not very good retention, to spite medium carbonation. Instant coffee aroma with sweet caramel coming through. Thin mouthfeel, quite watery infact. Slight tingle in aftertaste. Feels more like tooheys old! Initial bland sweetness with a roasted bitter finish. Bit of coffee and liquorice in the aftertaste. If it had a bit more body and feel it'd be alright. Fez (17) - AUSTRALIA - SEP 9, 2003
Not being a mad keen stout drinker, I was more than impressed when offered one of these. Consistently good brew that sneaks up on you after 8 or 10 pots.... One of the jewels in the Cascade Brewery crown.

Not a bad attempt for the aussies. Mildly burn taste, a darkish colour and a bit heavy on the fizz. It's a bit mild (full-bodied is a joke!) for true stout and after the first couple of mouthfuls I forgot it was!
Not bad for a mass produced effort. bluevegie (3073) - Perth, AUSTRALIA - JUL 9, 2003
I thought the head lasted longer than most of the other stouts I have been trying these winter months. The body was medium and more bitter than recently tasted stouts which I thought was good.An alright stout but I will keep on searching. A bit disappointing compared to other Australian stouts. It has an oily liquorice mouthfeel and often has an unwanted tang that seems to come from the brewing process. The head often fails. Nesta13 (205) - AUSTRALIA - JAN 24, 2003
Not too bad really. Tastes like coffee, but sort of sweetish coffee......... johninmelb (1127) - Bristol, Gloucestershire, ENGLAND - JAN 4, 2003
Seems OK to me as a relatively new convert to stouts, but nothing special. Strong roasted barley flavour and lots of coffee. The head disintegrates and the fizz is a bit too much - also the bitter aftertaste is a little too sharp for a good stout I think.
