On tap @ Chuck’s 85th. Pours light pale yellow with no head. Tart grapes and a hint of vinegar on the nose. Light initial tartness that fades quickly. Crisp malts balance perfectly. Thin refreshing taste. Someone just said this would be perfect at 11 in the morning and that sounds about right. Carries a premium but these guys know their sours.

Bottle at pilsnertests. MASSIVE gusher. Half the bottle on the grass. Hazy orange with a white fizz. White grape aroma with a bit of funk and oak. Taste is very similar with white grapes, oak, light funk. Semi sweet with a strange leather finish.

Well, this one is pretty much as advertised, a sour beer with heavy white wine notes. Not bad, but kinda an oily mouthfeel that I’m not a big fan of.

Aromat kojarzący się z białym winem musującym, kwaśne żółte owoce, nuty dzikie w postaci wyprawionej skóry, drewna, siana. W smaku kwaśne białe wino, wytrawne, z umiarkowanymi posmakami dzikimi, stajnia, siano.

From a bottle: pours hazy orange with a white head. Aroma is grapes and vibegar and wood. Taste is somewhat bitter wih a nice bit of sourness. More on the bitter and sharp side of the sours spectrum. Good though.

2013 Bottle The Seventh Beer of my #6000 celebration, which so happens to be the centre beer at #6000 itself...finally! Quite difficult to get the cork to get moving, but once it got a bit of a gap near the top, it opened fairly easily. Pours completely clear with a touch of a copper coloured body, but fairly peach and orange-ish with a thin off-white head that fades just as quickly as soda and doesn’t leave any sort of lace at all - large bubbles as well that fade to nothing. Aroma of gueuze, light malt, grass, yeast, white grape juice, more yeast and a sour, spontaneous fermentation smell that just screams funky sourness, just like the best gueuze from Belgium. Light to Medium-bodied; Funky sour flavours at first with green apples, pears, apricots and peaches, passionfruit and a light dose of guava as well, but the malt comes through a touch near the end, but this is funky and showing the must and dry oak throughout. Complex wild and funky flavours at first with the deep sour funk all pungent throughout along with the dry oak and sweetness that would show through after a long time in a wooden barrel. Aftertaste is funky, but the spontaneous fermentation and complexity with flavours around the spectrum makes this a very nice beer through and through and makes this a welcome and US-brewed alternative for a real, unblended gueuze from Belgium. Overall, great to finally sample, and despite the ho-hum appearance and unflattering trip to the glass, this beer is really good and makes me long for another trip to the brewpub and samples right from the barrels. I sampled this 75 cL corked and caged bottle, purchased from Supermarket Liqours in Fort Collins, Colorado on 17-March-2016 for US$19,99 sampled almost exactly a year later on 18-March-2017. 2013 Edition (9,3% abv) // Purchased: 17-March-2016 // Sampled: 18-March-2017
