Tasted at the big “SeaBass has got to go” tasting. Big big thanks to bvc for sending me this brew. It pours copper with gold hues and white head. The aroma is full with mango, citrus, grapefruit, a little pineapple and then mild molasses covered spicy oak. The taste is pretty bright and mildly sour to tart citrus hops going from grapefruit hop flavor, mango and tangelo to tarter citrus hop bitter notes to midway. Toward the finish it becomes tart and a bit yeasty and then dries out some with lingering citrus tartness and citrus sour notes hanging on for a good long while. Bottle… Tampa “Farewell to Sebletitje” Tasting… Murky peach-colored ale with a brief, small, creamy, white head. The bouquet is overflowing with caramel, brown sugar and fruity esters layered upon a subtle measure of bourbon. Full-bodied with only trace carbonation. The flavor offers caramel, grapefruit rind and walnut pith enhanced by a nice touch of acidity. Lengthy, tangy, bitter finish that winds up Sahara-dry. 1/15/11. Bottle shared at the Sea Bass going away party! Sweet dark fruits and big brown sugar with a dash of sour. Not bad! markwise (5441) - North of Tampa, Florida, USA - JAN 19, 2011
Thanks to the kind soul who opened this at the So Long Sea Bass Tasting. Pours a hazy orange with an off-white head. Nose is a beautiful balance of bourbon, citrus, malt, caramel, and vanilla. Flavor is lots of malt with caramel, vanilla, bourbon, and citrus. Great medium-bodied barley wine. sebletitje (10080) - Enghien, BELGIUM - JAN 17, 2011

In short: An excellent boozy and refreshing fruity Triple IPA calling itself a Barley Wine. Excellent.wetherel (1883) - Cupertino, California, USA - AUG 18, 2009
How: Bottle 22oz (hand-bottled). Consumed when over 6 months of age. Sent to me by after4ever, thanks a lot Tom for this rare gem
The look: Cloudy orange-blonde body topped by a medium off-white head
In long: Nose of big hoppy barley wine, slightly reminiscent of a fresh SN Bigfoot. Taste is something else! A lot of extra refreshing sweetened tropical fruits. Not really any caramel, honey or other sweetness flavour, just very sweet refreshing fruits, like fruits concentrate. A truckload of hops, a bit citrusy, a bit piney, and very grapefruity. Strong dry bitterness dominated by a grapefruits. This 11%+ barley wine is surprisingly low on malts and unfortunately the alcohol is apparent. But even with the alcohol apparent it fruity character and assertive bitterness make it very drinkable. At the end the beer ends-up feeling more like an excellent boozy but refreshing triple IPA than a true barley wine. Wow! What a kick-ass beer this was. I really didn’t know what to expect from this one and this was quite a treat. If that was sold locally I’d be as wasted as the three years I spent learning Klingon to impress the girls.
11.3% monster at toncatcher’s T3 tasting. Looking forward to this. Very hoppy. Dry. Very IPA ish. Alcohol present. Light sourness. Not as good as I was hoping. Snojerk321 (2960) - San Diego, California, USA - JUN 21, 2009
unlabeled 22oz bottle. Pours a completely hazy deep copper color with a small beige head that left some spotty lacing. Nose of roasted toffee, caramel, light oxidation, a little vegetative. Flavor was also lightly oxidized notes of caramel and toffee. Finish had a kind of herbal funkiness to it, pretty good overall. Unlabelled bomber shared by the great Mr G. Clear amber with a fleeting head. Boozy bourbon barrel aroma with some tart citrus. Medium body with light carbonation. Caramel, pitfruit, and bourbon vanilla flavors with lightly sour lemon. Sweet tart Barleywine. Good stuff. after4ever (8025) - Mukilteo, Washington, USA - APR 20, 2009
22, unlabelled. Thanks, SuzyGreenberg! And thanks Ron, as well, of course. Suzy just happens to be the one hooking us up this particular afternoon. Crystal clear medium amber. Headless. Laceless. Big white-wine-y nose. Some caramel and biscuit there. Creamy medium body. Sticky. Bright chardonnay lemonyness. Mild, lightly tart finish. Fascinating, offbeat, great stuff.
