COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Inspired by the book How to Brew, I modified it slightly and added more roasted flavor for a real taste buds pleasure. This stout even change the mind of many who said they would never drink dark beers, especially those you don’t see the light through!

Not the best stout for this micro brewery. Lack a distinctive touch, too plain.

Picked up a growler at the brewery this past fall. Pours a clean black colour and doesn’t really have much head, thin cap. Pretty weak lacing. Aromas of coffee, chocolate and cocoa with some notes of herbal and resin hops. Flavours of dark roasted malts, dark chocolate, coffee roast, some notes of mocha and a little bit of mild spices. Smooth and slick mouthfeel. Somewhat of a wet mouthfeel as well. Nice smooth and not overly bitter. Well balanced sweetness and bitterness. Good stuff

Solid no nonsense stout. Pours black with a small white top. Aroma is light roasted malts and dark chocolate. Taste is a slight chewiness, toasted malts and chocolate with a small bitter hop in the end. Just a well done stout.

On tap at brewery. Roasty aroma with some coffee and chocolate. Almost opaque black under a lasting, tan ring. Dry roasty flavour with some vanilla and a pleasant dark malt bitterness and a dry finish. Light body, moderate to medium carbonation, slightly bitter finish.

Really quite decent. Pours patch black with nice mocha head and great lacing. Roasty aroma with nutty flavours and a small bite of dark chocolate. Finishes bitter. Thick palate. Tap at Black Tomato.

In short: A very simple, slim, dry and roasted stout. Basic session beer with good drinkability.
How: Growler, shared by someone, paper rating with no context.
The look: Black body topped by a very small tan head.
In long: Nose is basic roast and light chocolaty notes. A somewhat thin body with an active carbonation. Taste is very roasty, burnt grainy malts, chocolate notes. A mild bitterness that seems mostly roast-related. Overall quite dry which makes it easy drinking. Not a lot to say about a very simple beer like this but what it lacks in complexity (it is a VERY simple beer) it makes up in drinkability. Deserves a passing grade. Rating beers is really a great hobby the way the Great Depression was really a great depression.

(Rating #4956)

Growler from the brewery. Black, chocolatey tan head. Lots of roast in pleasant aroma. Taste - lots of dry roast up front over a creamy body. Some milk chocolate in finish. Body is a bit watery. This is a nice stout with lots of flavour and very easy to drink without ever getting too complex.

Lubiere (13900) - Ottawa, Ontario, CANADA - JAN 23, 2013
A dark brown stout with a thin mocha head. In aroma, a grassy dirty chocolate malt with light off notes. In mouth, light bodied chocolatemstout with faint bitterness, chalky notes, smooth, not bad. On tap at Arrow and Loon, Jan 17, 2012.

2.4
probstblueribbon (3791) - Nepean, Ontario, CANADA - JAN 17, 2013
Pint at The Loon. Deep brown black with a thin mocha head. Oddly barfy with a bit of roasted malt character, wet cigar ash, not good. Medium body, softer effervescence. Slightly better than the nose, less gross, a little more dark roasted malt, still not great; dry with limited bitterness and a decent, slightly watery finish.
