COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
The name is a clue that our brewer likes to keep things simple for this super-hoppy pale ale; just one type of malt and a single hop variety are used. Pouring a brilliant old gold hue beneath a deep, rocky white head, the aroma is sweet, perfumy and inviting, with the distinctive citrus, tropical fruit and grassy signature of New Zealand Cascade hops. The palate is at first soft and creamy, yet tart and spritzy, with sweet malt vying to balance a riot of tropical fruit flavours and tongue-coating hop resins. Then the mouth becomes dry as an uncompromising bitterness kicks in and lingers. Great stuff! A celebration of New Zealand hops, this beer makes a splendid aperitif or a wonderful partner for hot, spicy food and milder blue cheeses. Geoff Griggs – October 2011

2016-05-20. Crisp dark yellow body with a small beige head, light lacing. Aroma is pleasantly fruity, citrus peel and tropical fruit. Flavour is moderately bitter throughout, interesting hop character, muddled but nice tropical fruit notes, some grass, moderate pale malt throughout. Sort of earthy not quite resiny quality lingers in the finish and aftertaste. Average bodied palate, good carbonation. Not bad. 7/3-4/7/3/14-15 On tap at The Brewery, Christchurch, NZ.

moderate bitterness, but lacking backbone and too light for the style. Likely abv is too low. Still not bad

A perfume like floral aroma with distinctive citrus notes, hints of tropical fruit and hops. Pours a good looking clear gold color with a lasting white well laced head. A floral hops taste with a dry feel and a bitter hops finish.

Keg - Brothers Beer, Auckland. 5.5%. Poured a lively golden amber with a small but lasting white head that left a uniform lace down the glass. Bright, fresh citrus and tropical fruit characters across both aroma and flavour with a lean towards a resinous bitterness in the finish on the palate. Balancing pale malt complexities develop, particularly aroma-wise. Light to medium body, crisp palate effervescence and a finish that lingers submitting eventually to an aftertaste of biscuity malt sweetness. A perfect thirst-slaking drop.

Called so becase it uses one malt, one yeast and one hop variety. Poured off tap light gold with a white head that ebbed away. (I’d have like to have seen it on handpull, but then there’s nothing to suggest that it won’t appear that way one day) The aroma was grassy, lemon citrus and tropical. I’m probably not going to win points by saying that this is similar to Epic Pale Ale but for the fact that it’s a bit of a champion too. Loads of potntial in this beer. First tastes are of mellow tropical fruit and then bitterness comes crashing through like a hooligan through a plaster wall. Plenty of character coming from the Cascade hops. A bit strong for a session beer, but I’d happily reach for another.
