Following the millenary tradition of the abbeys of Belgium and the Netherlands, Especialidades Cerveceras is proud to present Milenia, a unique hand crafted bottle conditioned ale. Only 4,000 to 5,000 bottles of this monastic brew are obtained from each brew. Its body goes from medium to robust with a high alcohol level (8.0% vol). Its unique taste derives from the well balanced blend of roasted and caramel malts as well and English and Czech noble hops. The specially selected yeast accounts for its complex bouquet and fruity flavor. Fresh wort and yeast are added prior to bottling to promote a secondary fermentation that will take place within the bottle. The bottles go through cellarage at the brewery under controlled environment. This delicate process is known as bottle conditioning and provides the superb refinement of flavors and aromas found in every Milenia.

Bottled in 2004. Dark amber, no head. Obvious yeasty, appley, oxidized defect corky aroma. Soft and medium bodied. Notes of toffee that drowns in a sea of rotting cork. This defect has ruined the beer.

Courtesy of lunaticharness. Murky, light brown, no head, appears to be completely flat. English bw, more than a belgian strong. Aroma and flavor are dominated by caramel/toffee notes, light fruit. Very one dimensional.

Bottle shared by Joe: This one was probably aged for too long. Smell of sour apples, plums and vinegar. Tastes tart and finishes with some astringency. Smooth mouthfeel.

Bottle shared by Joe, aged at NBD for 10 lovely, hot years. Smells a bit soupy, with prunes and heavy oxidation. Bearable, at least, bit the cardboard-like oxidation is a bit much.

Right out of the bottle, tart cherries, vinegar, fruit, caramel. The pour is a red/brown, murky, almost no carbonation, some hanging particulates. (I found this guy in a farflung place, and the botle must be 4 years old). The flavor is tart fruit, cherries, spicy, vinegar. Slightly weak flavor, but decent. The mouthfeel is medium to thick, slick. The finish is a sour and spicy flavor, like mustard, but some fruit sweetness. Not bad at all. Im actually glad I found this, as it is no longer made.

2005 bottle courtesy degarth. Clear amber pour, cloudy and hazy, tea-colored, no lacing. Caramel nose, brown sugar, spices, some hot fruit, dry pepper and wood. Flavor is pretty oxidized, still good, some meaty tones, chocolate, mostly Tootsie-roll and some toffee. Thin-bodied, oxidized but still tasty. Unique and would love to have tried it fresh.

2005 vintage pours headless murky copper to dirty brown. The aroma has some kick with brown sugar, dark fruity esters, lots of raisins and mustier dark fruity notes. Oh, did I forget to mention; lots of sweet raisins? The taste is pretty darn smooth with musty crusty dark fruit from ripe to near wrinkled cherries, raisins and plums moving into honey and brown sugar sweetness. It ends dry with lingering sugar sweetness and fading brown sugar and dark fruit.
