This beer had a large sized white head with fine-small sized bubbles that mostly dissipated. The body had a lot of lively/fizzy carbonation and it was transparent with a golden hue. The nose was lightly malty, sweet and fruity. The taste was sweet, somewhat malty, tart and somewhat flat with an aftertaste. The mouthfeel was smooth, watery, thin and dry. This was a light bodied beer with sparse lacing. This was a drinkable beer and after a few sips I could feel some alcohol effects. Braudog (6804) - Yorktown, Virginia, USA - APR 13, 2004
Poured with a nice solid head over cloudy yellow. Musty honey aroma. Very banana-spiced flavor, with a hint of peppery spice. Crazy stuff. grat (432) - ST. Louis, Missouri, USA - AUG 1, 2004
Not very good. Pours a lovely golden color. Nose is really more like a lager than ale. Flavours reflect this (Heineken) but retain a slight barnyardness. Leather, and hay with lager yeast and tetternangs

Poured the color of a golden ripe apricot with a very airy tall white head. Tons of carbonation killed the head pretty quickly. Not much of an aroma save for some light yeast and a little citrus. Flavors of pale malt, bread, apple and citrus with just a hint of hoppy bitterness. Mouthfeel suffered a bit from the overwhelming carbonation. Finish was crisp. Overall, a refreshing but underwhelming ale. Jake Barnes (456) - St. Louis, Missouri, USA - FEB 10, 2002
Not overly impressive. I just didn't find much there. Some yeast and hay flavors but not a whole lot there overall. Not bad but I was expecting more from my first biere de garde.

Light to medium body, velvety texture, lively carbonation. amx1970390 (480) - Southampton, Pennsylvania, USA - JAN 31, 2003
Looks very nice with a light color and a large head. Aroma is slightly skunky. Taste is malty with a clean slight bitter finish. good but not great. Alcoholist (570) - Peoria, Illinois, USA - MAY 24, 2004
Clear golden colour with a large white head. Aroma is spiced and yeasty with grassy hoppiness. Taste is lightly sweet, lightly spiced with a barnyard character. muenster (345) - Sevierville, Tennessee, USA - JAN 5, 2007
Hmm, pours yellow/blonde with lots and lots of floaties and a thin white head. Berries and acidity dominate the aroma. The flavor was far to corn syrupy, lots of sweet malt, little acidity and a little fruit. Man, after the Oro De Calabaza, I was expecting something far better than this from a biere de garde. mtoast (336) - Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, USA - FEB 10, 2008
33cL bottle courtesy of yinzer at Pittsburgh gathering on 1/27/2008. Crystal clear golden color, stark white foam, decent retention. Nice earthy aroma, some very nice yeast spiciness. Flavor falls a little flat, somewhat malty with some of the yeastiness coming through but for the most part comes across as a bit watery. Was really looking forward to this, I think my expectations far exceeded reality.
