COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION

Black beer in appearance, similar to a porter. The aroma is very wine orientated whereas the flavour is lightly bitter with malt and coffee elements. A reasonable beer, better than I was expecting.

sayravai (4710) - Helsinki, FINLAND - SEP 17, 2004
(Bottled) Clear, dark reddish color with a very small head. Sweetish, sugary-malty aroma. Sweet, syrupy, slightly nutty flavor. Medium-bodied, very light palate (especially considering the color and style). Low carbonation. Another one in the Ch’ti series with exactly the same basic aroma and flavor. Still no yeast and nowhere near the Belgian counterparts.

Toasty malt aroma. Dark borwn, almost opaque with very shy off-white head that recedes to thin cover. Sweet lightly malty, nutty. Thin body. Ultimately forgettable. Bottle (sampled at Mondial 2004).

Grovlam (4252) - Copenhagen, DENMARK - DEC 11, 2006
Bottle. Dark brown color with a medium slightly fluffy like head. Quickly disappeared and left not noticeable lacing. Aroma was light malty with notes like caramel, toasted, spices. Maybe some hops can be detected in there as well. Body is surprisingly weak, and texture is very thin. Flavor is slightly sweet, with a light sweet finish. Not very exciting beer.

Frank (4225) - Chicago, Illinois, USA - JUL 1, 2003
Translucent dark brown with a diminishing tan head with little lace. Smells great--almost bock-y with a molasses edge. I'm wondering if this is bottom fermented. Highly carbonated and somewhat light bodied with a little bit of bite. Sweetly earthy. Slightly bitter, slightly sticky finish with a slight alcoholic edge.

rickgordon (3878) - Göteborg, SWEDEN - MAY 17, 2007
Bottled. Clear brown colour. Almost no aroma, only subtle notes of milk chocolate. Light-medium bodied with vague chocolate notes. Apart from that, nothing. Very one-dimensional.

Bottle, 25 cl. Friday at home. (bought @ Willems) Dark brown color, with small, beige head. Aroma roasted malts, caramel . Medium body. Taste sweet, dark malts, and bitter notes also chocolate touch.

Serving: 750 mL corked and caged bottle (6.4% ABV) shared by Tmoney99. Thanks Tom!
Event: Tasting with friends.
Location: Dilly Deli

Tasting Notes
Aroma: Sour cherry, prune juice, hint of vinegar and chocolate.
Appearance: Deep mahogany color (brown with reddish hues) with a diminishing beige head. The remaining crown is frothy.
Flavor: Initially it has a deep caramel flavor. Actually, maybe a better way to describe it would be more like the way toffee once tasted (brown sugar/soy sauce). After the initial maltiness, the flavor moves to a sour cherry/fruit middle. There is some mild cardboard flavor in the finish along with a hint of hop bitterness.
Palate: Medium body with a soft and smooth texture.
Overall: Moderately sweet with some tang to it. Quite a unique and somewhat complex beer.

Bottle. Brownish colour with a huge creamy head. Aroma and taste of malts, fruits and spices. Nice palate. Average lasting finish.
