Another bottle from Poperinge’s Quebec trip. Fluffy brown head. Thick dark brown beer. Quickly thinning head leaves strong lacing. Vinegar like aroma similar to a Flemish Brown. Lightly airy body. Flavour is a mix of brown ale and Flemish. Light chocolate notes. Some grapes and cherries a the back of the palate. talon1117 (1152) - Fort Collins, Colorado, USA - JUN 14, 2007
Bottled 01-06. Pours a dark brown color with hints of red and an average, beige, fizzy-rocky head; it is mostly diminishing leaving minimal scattered lacing. Nose is fairly one dimensional with light chocolate, prune, and hints of earthy hazlenut. Flavor is similar with dominant prune, toffee, earthy notes, soy sauce, and a bit of a stale tone. Palate is light to medium, moderate to lively carbonation, but still silky feeling. Finishes with some lightly roasted notes coming into play bringing just enough bitterness with some lingering prune notes. Not a bad beer, but lacking any depth or dimension. Not as focused or as delicate as some of the better examples of the style. Would not buy again but still an intriguing style. saxo (18945) - Højbjerg, Aarhus, DENMARK - APR 28, 2008

(bottle, 75cl) Clear, dark brown colour with a tanned and small foamy head. Slightly earthy and nutty toast-malty aroma with a vinous fruity touch. Sweet-bitter flavour with a tinge of sourness, medium bodied with a calm carbonation. Toasty malt-character with earthy, leafy and nutty notes, accompanied by a berry fruity touch; mildly sweet and moderately toasted malty finish with notes of dried fruits in the aftertaste. 21.II.11 Dedollewaitor (16178) - Odense, DENMARK - JUN 3, 2011

Deep dark ruby body with a compact, lasting, light tan head. Full malt aroma with notes of broth and caramel. Medium body, smooth taste that is a little nutty, pepper, a little liquorice but not too much more. DuffMan (10456) - the land of bitumen, beef & beer, Alberta, CANADA - JAN 1, 2006
Dark walnut brown, small tan head. Weak aromas of chocolate, maybe a nutty character too. Not nearly as impressive as the ambree, but not bad. Hoser (387) - Cowtown, Alberta, CANADA - JAN 14, 2007
Michael Jackson call this a Biere du Garde but it seemed more like a flavourless dubbel to me. Bought this in Maine in the fall of 2006. Page 108 of Micheal Jackson’s Great Beer Guide only 436 of his 500 Classic Brews to go. ekstedt (6881) - Göteborg, SWEDEN - MAY 18, 2007
