Very dark brown. Brown head, creamy, not very stable. Nose of brown sugar and mocca. Taste is expressly liquorice and malt sugar, maybe again some mocca. Seems poorly attenuated. Watery mouthfeel, despite the malt. Aftertaste = liquorice. it is strange. Northern France is riddled with good bière de garde producers. The two topmost famous (Bénifontaine and la Choulette) brew piss-poor examples, yet everybody seems to swear by them. argo0 (14127) - Washington DC, USA - JUN 9, 2005
(750ml bottle) There are times when I wish my quest for new beers did not lead me to beers like this one. It is not a bad beer, but considering what else I could have gotten for my $13, I am quite disappointed. Medium tan head atop a clear, dark red-brown body. Aroma is medium sweet, caramel, nutty, some raisin. Taste is moderately sweet, nutty, caramel, cola, dark fruit. Finish is nutty and light coffee. Watery light-medium body with low carbonation. Bottle. Off-white cramy high lasting and good looking head. Clear ruby head. Sweet malt aroma. Sweat malt flavor but some bitterness at the end. The looks is definately the best about the beer. The price is much too high. thewolf (12940) - Kolding, DENMARK - MAY 11, 2008

Pours deep brown with a big, creamy, slightly off-white head. Aroma is sweet, lightly roasted, some dark dried fruits and strawberry notes. High carbonation - a little light in mouthfeel. Flavour is sticky sugary sweet, weakly roasted with some chocolate and caramel. Light metallic off-flavours.
Bottle. Pours with a minimal eggshell head; deep dark brown color. Raisiny sweetness dominates the aroma; very light dark fruits as well. Some yeastiness. Taste features the raisins as well; not too sweet which is good, but is borderline. Dry biscuit finish. Thinner palate with very light carbonation and a bit sticky over the tongue. OK, but nothing terribly good either. No complexity.

Burnt chocolate malt aroma. Dark borwn colour with good head and lacing. Bitter burnt malt flavour with chocolate. Smooth palate. rickgordon (3878) - Göteborg, SWEDEN - MAY 17, 2007
Clear brown colour. Almost no aroma, only subtle notes of milk chocolate. Light-medium bodied with vague chocolate notes. Apart from that, nothing. Very one-dimensional. SHIG (4965) - Wasilla, Alaska, USA - NOV 24, 2007
Bottle: Poured a dark brown almost black with a beige color head. Aroma is dark malt and roasted smell. Taste is a sweet caramel sugary grain malt. KimJohansen (10498) - Frederiksberg C, DENMARK - APR 26, 2008
Dark brown with medium beige head. Aroma has roasted malt and mild chocolate notes. Sweet flavor with roasted malt, brewing cereal and chocolate notes. Grovlam (4257) - Copenhagen, DENMARK - DEC 11, 2006
Bottle. Dark brown color with a medium slightly fluffy like head. Quickly disappeared and left not noticeable lacing. Aroma was light malty with notes like caramel, toasted, spices. Maybe some hops can be detected in there as well. Body is surprisingly weak, and texture is very thin. Flavor is slightly sweet, with a light sweet finish. Not very exciting beer.
