Castle Lager uses South African hops note the solid foam, as well as the reassuring bitterness with undertones of malt. This beer is somewhat dry, somewhat bitter but never sweet.

Pours light straw. Thin to no head. Nose is metal and grass. Taste is metal, sweet, light caramel, light bread. Of the big SA lagers, I prefer Hansa.

Good summer lager. Not much aftertaste. Unfortunately another beer to use corn adjuncts. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Bottle. Golden-yellow colored, clear with a rocky white head. Malty nose, mostly bread notes, light biscuit touch with some floral and spicy hoppy notes. Light to medium sweet taste, with a light bitterness. Body is light and crisp, with high carbonation and a sparkling mouthfeel. Flavor is flat, plain and indistinctive. Leaves a light bitter aftertaste.

It wouldve been interesting to taste the South African hops in this brew, but the taste is way too watery to extinguish any kind of hoppy character.

Clear, pale golden colour with a frothy white head that quickly dissipated. Bread and citrus aroma. Medium sweet, light-medium bitterness. Light bodied, thin texture. Soft carbonation. Slightly bitter finish. The ubiquitous South African pale lager. I dont drink Castle very often, but I think its a decent contender in its class.

33cl bottle at work. Poor corn-wheatish lager. Easy to drink and thats it. Drinkable but waste if water.

Can in Joburg SAA lounge, as it was the only refrigerated beverage at the time! It pours yellow with a thick, fluffy white head. The aroma is sweet, corn, maize, white bread, white sugar, cereal and straw. The taste is crisp, subdued sweetness underpinning it, corn, straw, cheap white bread, touch of candied lemon peel, cereal and a touch of spice. Finish is dry. Medium body and moderate, foamy carbonation. There are plenty of worse lagers out there. Drinks easy. Pretty decent for the style.
