Castle Milk Stout has a thick texture, strong flavour and a full, satisfying and complex taste, with a hint of caramel. Dark roasted malt provides its distinctive dark colouring, and the creamy, smooth head comes from a special yeast.

UPDATED: NOV 23, 2013 caramel and earthy aroma, beautiful brown black maroon appearance with minimal head, umami savoury taste with average carbonation which is sometimes higher. Creamy head that lingers though. Medium body although thus far the best commercial scale prodced beer I have tasted in SA. Stamp of approval.

My bottle is brewed by Nile Breweries Ltd, Uganda.
33cl bottle. A black beer with a huge most good lasting tan head. Aroma of dark mild roasted malt, chocolate, liquorice, melasse. taste of liquorice, dark malt, soft roasted malt, chocolate, solid brew!

Dark colour, tan head, some malt notes. Nice sugary depth. Thin body, little bitterness.

Pours black with a light tan head. Visibly thin and over carbbed for the style. Nose is metal. Taste is light chocolate, dark fruit, cocoa dust, burnt wood. Not good for the style but having a mass produced stout isn’t so bad.

440ml Can: Pours black with rocky tan head. Aroma of caramel and dark fruits. A slight roastiness with hints of dark chocolate, coffee and caramel/toffee. Medium light bodied, medium carbonation, medium low bitterness. Overall an easy drinking beer.

Bottled (750ml) Black colour with brownish-tan head. Medium sweetness, dark chocolate and coffee. A reliable standby from SAB. Very nice on tap as well, with a creamier texture.

340ml bottle at Montecasino Johannesburg. Pours black with medium head. Roasted coffee aroma with similar taste. Sweet after taste with hints of cocoa and coffee.

Bottle, Nassau Bahamas. Pours a clear dark brown body with a small fizzy brown head that faded to a thin ring. The nose is slightly sweet with lactose and chocolate, some roastiness, a little burnt note. The flavor is pretty decent, not overly sweet, but plenty of lactose. Nicely roasty and chocolaty without any burnt or acrid notes you sometimes get with stouts. Medium bodied with just the slightest bit of cling and soft gentle carbonation. Pretty good stuff, far exceeded my expectations for a South African beer.
