64oz growler from Appalachian Vintner.
Pours black with a dark brown edge. A rough pour produced a small creamy head that faded quickly. Smells of chocolate and booze dominate. Reminds me a lot of dark chocolate cherry cordials. Notes of vanilla, marzipan, coconut and really nice sweet bourbon (no char-like flavor). Sweet chocolate up front, reminds me of Reisin candy with a hint of caramel, builds to a spicy French vanilla accented bourbon finish. Really nice bourbon influence. Definitely strong, but elevates the beers complexity. Weighty mouthfeel, with rich, soft chocolate and spicy/hot booze note that balances and keeps it from being too chewy.
Brewvival Trip Beer 3. Served on draft at Mellow Mushroom Asheville. Pours a clear dark brown color with a thin head. Decent head retention. Aroma of huge bourbon notes, booze, chocolate, soy, wood, minty hops. The taste is big whisky, big booze notes, chocolate, roasted malts, soy, tart fruits. Way too hot, and disjointed. I guess this is what they mean by hot mess. DiarmaidBHK (5913) - Lewisburg, Pennsylvania, USA - DEC 20, 2012
Draft at Appalachian Vintner. Pours black with a thin khaki head. Some nice bourbon and vanilla notes on the nose. Bigger bourbon on the tongue but there’s some malty goodness as well. Lingers a bit but it’s pleasant. Solid for style.
