3.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20
UPDATED: JUN 29, 2015 On tap at the brewery. Half pour- just enough. Decent porter- nothing outstanding. Pours black with a disappointing, dissipating tan head. Coconut and dark roasty flavors on the nose. Good mouthfeel for a porter- not too heavy. The usual dark malt flavors- coffee, vanilla, toast with an appropriate amount of coconut. Not overpowering, but still there enough that a lei would not be inappropriate. Nothing mind blowing, but totally drinkable. Runs a little bit on the sweet side with the coconut.
6/28 Can at home. Bit of metallic twang to it from the can. Better on tap. Great weight for a porter. More of a fall/winter beer to me.
On tap at flying saucer. Good coconut taste. Not too sweet a smith tasting stout.

Dark black pour with one finger of dark tan had. Nose shows sweet coconut, chocolate, a touch of grain, roast, and crackery malt. Coconut dominates the flavor with chocolate following and some dark grain roast. Medium bodied. thegreenrooster (4396) - St.louis, Missouri, USA - AUG 6, 2016
Pour is a complete black with a small tan head. Aroma is pretty much all coconut with a slight semisweet chocolate. Flavor is a decent amount of coconut with some bitter chocolate. It has a pretty thin mouthfeel and there is not much, or any roasted malt presence. On the other hand if you like toasted coconut with a little chocolate in the background then this is the beer for you. AWISLguy (3109) - Wisconsin, USA - JUL 24, 2016
Sampler from Catawba on the South Slope of Asheville. Brown pour with little head. Lovely coconut nose. Caramel, light chocolate. The taste is still solid coconut, but not quite to the promise of the nose. A solid coconut porter, and best brew of the sampler. 14 aracauna (3599) - Georgia, USA - JUL 18, 2016
The guy at Pour Taproom said he didn’t care for last year’s edition, but that he recommended this year’s edition. Nice coconut that doesn’t overwhelm. Soft chocolatey malt. Not bad.

12 oz can into a Belgian snifter.
A: Dark brown to black with a brown fringe when held to the light. The decent size head quickly reduces to a tiny ring that leaves almost no lacing.
Aroma: Coffee, dark chocolate, dark roasted malts but no coconut.
Flavor: Dark and black bread, chocolate and faint coffee are soon joined by light coconut. Some sweetness, but mildly bitter overall.
M: Medium body with light carbonation.
Overall: a fairly good porter with a light, conservative dose of roasted coconut. Dogbrick (13006) - Columbus, Ohio, USA - AUG 11, 2015
Sample at the Biltmore Village taproom. Dark brown color with a medium tan head that recedes quickly to a film. Small patches of lacing on the glass. Aroma of roast malt, chocolate and slight coconut. Light body with flavors of malt, mild coffee and a hint of toasty coconut. The finish is sweet with a malty aftertaste. Decent overall. suprchunk (2994) - Crestview, Florida, USA - JUL 24, 2015

Black appearance with a minimal beige head. The aroma contains some strong coffee and faint coconut. The flavor is rather sweet with a big ol smack o coconut and some dark chocolate. This beer is boring to look at and smell but the taste is all that. The finish is full of some tropical goodness. Overall a good drank.
