fiulijn (20516) - Vancouver, British Columbia, CANADA - JUN 30, 2016
Tasting at Matt’s
Black color, beige head. Dark brown color, near black, with beige frothy head. Aroma of cheap chocolate and tobacco. Roasted malts flavor, a bit sour, coffee, heavily roasted nuts.

mcberko (17867) - Vancouver, British Columbia, CANADA - JUN 29, 2016
500mL bottle, pours black with a small tan head. Aroma smells a bit off, with a slight sour note, and roasted malt. Flavour is heavy on the roasted malt, with some bitter dry cocoa, and an off-putting bitter astringency. Mind-boggling how this has such a high rating. Messy, incoherent and potentially infected. Not impressive.

Oakes (17699) - Vancouver, British Columbia, CANADA - JUL 9, 2016
Dark brown. Not much head. Oily, slightly burnt, a touch of alcohol. Rich, burnt sugars, touch of torched fruit. Kind of a simple character, but fairly intense.

Benzai (15624) - Oirschot, THE NETHERLANDS, NETHERLANDS - JUL 31, 2016
Bottle shared by Countbeer, thanks! Opaque black color, full sized brown head that diminishes fairly quickly. Aroma is malts, dark and roasted malts, tar. Taste malts, roasted malts, liquorice, tar, bitter. Decent body, medium carbonation. Solid.

Ferris (15493) - Burnaby, British Columbia, CANADA - JUN 30, 2016
Bottle - Dark roasty cocoa. Deep dark brown with a small light brown head. Dirty cocoa notes, overcarbed and a long light bitter finish. Not great.

Countbeer (6592) - Best of E-Town mit 2 Brauhausen, NETHERLANDS - JUL 31, 2016
Bottle: Thanks Owen: Served in a Chouffe glass: Black beer with a brown head. Nose has tones of roast, coffee, liquorice, bay leaf, little tar and soy notes, some raisin, hint of gingerbread and a light light floral tint. Flavours of roast, liquorice, bay leaf, some soy, light mocha and dark chocolate tints, laurel, raisin, bitters, light coffee... Aftertaste is bitter, roasty, light liquorice, light coffee and some laurel. Low carbo, creamy mouthfeel, bit more than medium bodied. Decent.

750ml bottle from Archive Beer Boutique. Rating from September 2014. Cracker of a big black beer this one. Fills the mouth with with burnt bitterness and leaves you searching for another one.

hawthorne00 (3957) - Melbourne, AUSTRALIA - JUN 1, 2012
Bottle, 14C. Bottle says 9% ABV. Black with a large tan head that lasts and laces pretty well. Aroma of coffee, roasted barley, under-ripe berries. Taste is surprisingly unlike the aroma, apart from coffee: chocolate fudge, coffee, orange blossoms, some pine. Slightly syrupy, but not all that heavy. Dry, somewhat powdery finish, bitterness creeps up a bit. A lot to like about this, but the aroma didn’t really lead me into the beer.
