Pierre Celis created the original Hoegaarden beer in the early 1960’s. Interbrew-Labatt bought the brand and the brewery in the 1980's. Pierre Celis formed a new brewery in Austin Texas, brewing the same beer but under the brand name Celis White. Miller bought the Celis brewery and the Celis White brand-name in 1996. The brewery closed in 2000. In late 2002 Michigan Brewing bought the Celis White brand from Miller. Brouwerij Van Steenberge is now brewing the original Pierre Celis White under the brand-name Celis White in Europe and Ertveld's Wit in North America.

25 ml. bottle. Hazy pale yellow colour, good head, but not much retention. Big lace. Smell is faint in comparison to some others belgian white: orange, coriander, fruits, some spices and pepper. Normal carbonartion, medium body. Fizzy. Taste is the same as nose. Being the "original" white belgian I was expecting much more. It pales in comparison to Hoegarden, IMO.

The grandaddy of blanches. Nose of scallops, lemon juice and orange cordial. Mouth full of coriander, which gets sweeter like nutmeg. Fantastic summer day calls for a fantastic summer beer.

Mooi witbier. Bijzondere smaak. Lekker smaakvol voor in de zomer met een zachte afdronk.

Nice snowy head. Aroma is quite intriging floral perfume. Some notes of Coriander seeds, orange peel, yeasty dough and caramel. Soft water mouth feel. The taste is horrid, watered down yeasty dough with perfume and some little grainy sweetness. Finish is oxidation.

Just like Horgaden when I tasted the first. Lots of fruit aroma makes me feel this is tempting me to drink.

0.25 bottle.
Cloudy, pale yellow color and a large, thick, white head. Aroma is insanely citric and spicy; bubblegum, bananas, and coriander. Sweet taste of apples, bananas, once again bubblegum, spices, citruses, and other light fruits. A medium body, an oily texture, and a soft carbonation. Finish is medium long and has this typical, witbier, sweet and sour character. Overall the beer is fine - nothing special about it but it’s a refreshing and drinkable brew.
