Aroma of coconut, leather, earthy, smells like low quality coconut shampoo with some cocoa notes. pours black with a bit of coconut oil as a head. Taste of coconut, leather, hop matter, alcohol, chocolate. Very sweet, cloying and oily mouthfeel, with a harsh oak/hop/alcohol finish that definitely doesn’t leave you wanting more.

TheAlum (7164) - Aurora, Illinois, USA - NOV 10, 2016
Draft pour on tap at the brewery tap room (San Francisco, CA). Pours a deep dark blackish inky hue. Good legs, thicker, with dark brownish rich head atop. Dark crusty color, dissipates to a mellow film, thicker ringer with solid lacing. Aromas show big coconut and fudgey malt appeal, caramel and roast meet dark silky cocoa, touches of oak, vanilla, spice. Rich stouty goodness, dark layers and roast. Mounds Bar rich dark and coconut depth, mellow spirit, toast and toffee. Initial is liquid crack, a delicious fudgey dark chocolate meets caramel, firm to potent coconut nectar, Nilla Wafers, toffee, more toasty and sweet coconut liquid. Backend ends up more toast, roast, some oak presence and wood, a bit of heat pokes through at times. But largely, this big sweet nectar is dark, silky, rich, and coconutty. A bit roasty, bitter, coffee and some hop elements round out, softened a touch by oak. Subtle spice, lingering coconut, vanilla, fudge always remain the focus. A bit if coffee depth back here, trailing sweetness and delicious fudgey coffee mocha elements stock around, flowing around the palate well. Just delicious rich nectar without overwhelming. Dessert in a glass, a trendy rich little concoction that smells great, looks great, tastes rich, and flows very well for what it is. Delicious and magnificent.
