COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
"Bourbon Barrel Vastness of Space" Imperial Stout goes on tap. We aged our Imperial Stout for 13 months in 3 Breckenridge Bourbon Barrels and 1 Eagle Rare 10yr Barrel and blended the 4 barrels. The resulting beer is very viscous, chewy and bourbon forward with notes of coconut, vanilla and spice. We are pretty stoked to share it with all of you. There will be no growlers of this offering as supplies are limited.

Ataraxia (589) - California, USA - JAN 29, 2018
Opaque, almost black, beige lacing. Chocolate fudge, raisin, candied fruits, brown sugar, and hints of coconut. Malty and bready, moderate sweetness, and an indistinguishable aftertaste. Smooth but feels a little thinner than expected. Some booziness in the finish.

Poured from a 16 oz bottle. Aroma is a mix of malt and barrel notes. Quite a bit of chocolate with some lighter roast notes. Light oak notes with quite a bit of bourbon and light coconut and vanilla. Some raisin and other dark fruit notes. Light alcohol spice. Pours jet black with a small, thin, dark mocha head that recedes fairly quickly to the edges where it lingers for just a bit. No lacing and moderately long legs. Flavor is moderately sweet with chocolate and lighter roast, toast and caramel notes. Medium bitterness with some light raisin and dark fruit notes. Light vanilla and coconut notes with moderately strong bourbon and faint oak. Medium light alcohol spice. Mouthfeel is medium full bodied with medium low to low carbonation. Low astringency and medium low alcohol warmth. Overall, a decent beer but the barrel character isn't as interesting as I expected. Instead, the barrel character is mostly bourbon and alcohol heat but it's missing the coconut and vanilla that I expected. Malt profile is decent but the extended barrel aging has oxidized it a bit giving it too much raisin and dark fruit notes.
