Nose is mostly expectable for something this black but then tad more modest with a hint of additional something, perhaps chili? ( I actually knew in advance about the spiciness anyway). Id say this had almost enough hops for the smell but it didt open up as much on contact, perhaps because of all the pepper getting in the way, followed by the usual medium ashtray and yes, some hops. Although it opens up slightly better towards the bottles end, this should be compared again to Texas Ranger.

Bottle, April 2014 Not So Fools Tasting (rating backlog) Pours almost black but with a red tinge. Nose is fruity, wood, wine, oak, chilli and spicy. Taste is IPA-ish, some caramel, orange but with a big chilli burn at the end, quite nice.

[ As Celt Experience / Otley Barbarians Beverage ].
Clear medium to dark brown color with a average, frothy, fair lacing, mostly lasting, off-white head. Aroma is moderate malty, roasted, caramel, chocolate, butter, light earthy - light fruity chili. Flavour is moderate to heavy sweet and bitter with a long duration, roasted, chili, caramel, light chocolate. Body is medium, texture is oily, carbonation is soft. [20140217]

Dark amber, beige head, spotty lacing. Nose is malty sweetness and smoky spice notes. Flavor is toasty malt, alcohol, some sweet-fruity notes. Finish is solidly hoppy bitter with a chili bite.

McNeillR (2241) - Edinburgh, SCOTLAND - APR 5, 2014
Clear mahogany, beige thin head. Sweet musty choc, cayenne and charred roastedness. Burgeoning roastedness, chocolatey hops and building chilli vibe. Not a massive middle to this, zips to the chilli kick - with an odd thin bitterness. Chilli burn is nice enough, if a bit pushy. Finish is chalky chilli burn and sweet steamy colander orange rind bitterness.

deep brown black ... thin tan head ... deep brown black ... soft deep dark roast malt nose ...little too fizzy ...d ark bitter chocolate roast .. dark malt ... light pine ... too dry and bitter ... massive roast .. oh wait... its got a chilli kick... but looking at the ingredients i can see a reason for that ... still too bitter ... like the chilli shame about the bitterness

Ins Glas ergiet sich ein dunkel rtlichbraunes Bier mit schner Schaumkrone. Geruch leicht rstmalzig, fruchtig hopfig. Geschmack leicht rstmalzig schokoladig, bitter fruchtig, leicht scharf im Abgang.

Dark red brown, small white head. Aroma - sweet caramel, roasted malts, pepper. Spicy, malty and hoppy taste. A little bit oily and too lively carbonated for my taste, but interesting experience.

Bottle from Cotteridge Wines, Birmingham. Clear, dark red. Thin, tan head. Liquorice. Burnt rubber. Taste is dark chocolate bitter. Palate has plenty of heat. Too much for me. Hard work.

330ml bottle from Ales by Mail

Pours dark brown with a thick white head. Aroma of roasty malts, spices, pepper, grassy hops and exotic fruits. Taste is smooth, hoppy and slightly roasty with some spiciness, peppery notes, grass and fruits. Finish is hoppy, grassy and roasty with some warming chili notes. Okay black IPA with a touch of chili.
