Bottle at home, 2010 Vintage. Pour is murky brown/amber in appearance with a fluffy, off-white head with good lacing. Toffee, raisins, figs, caramel, candi sugar, bread, light grapefruit, citrus, light vanilla, wood, and bourbon in the aroma. Taste is figs, caramel, light roast, sweet raisins, brown sugar, grassy hops, bourbon, coconut, vanilla, and licorice with a light alcoholic burn on the finish. Creamy mouthfeel with soft carbonation. Pretty smooth for such a high ABV, but a little too dominated by barrel characteristics. Still a very good barleywine.

12 oz. bottle aged about 16 months. Darker brown color, ruby highlight around the edges. Aroma is subtle bourbon, mellow oak, dried apples and fruity hints. Flavor shows me dried fruits, plums, warming alcohol, after the sip. Aged just log enough.

This is a big and complex barley wine. Flavorful bourbon without the burn. Can't tell what bourbon barrel this is but... absolutely delicious!

355ml bottle (thx, Chris S.!). Vintage 2015. Pours a murky amber with a tan head. Aroma is huse bourbon and fruity notes. Taste is similar with lots of chocolate, hoppy bitterness and boozy notes. Still quite boozy, but this booziness is quite pleasant and compensated by high palate. Great stuff!

On tap at Local Option. Pours near black with a thick clinging tan head and a fruity treacle aroma. There is a full-bodied dark molasses flavor with a very warm finish. This is a big beer that is well-designed with a lot of bourbon.

Nsanders (1155) - St Paul, Minnesota, USA - AUG 4, 2017
Bottle. Red brown with quickly fading beige head. Bourbon, caramel, vanilla, dried cherries, toast, and slight alcohol aromas. Medium to strong caramel, toffee sweetness with a slight dry booze aftertaste. Heavy body with a sticky feel.

Really lends itself to the bourbon again. 2 barley wines in a row I like. What’s going on here.

Bottle. Garnet red brown with lasting head. Brown sugar woody cherry aroma with a hint of booze. Medium-heavy toasted brown sugar sweetness with some ripe cherry and long woody earthy spicy pine and boozy finish. Medium-heavy body with fine lively carbo. Excellent.

Thank you, Jack! The aroma is toffee, caramel, a little bourbon. Pours an amber brown with a beige head mostly diminishing and excellent lacing. The taste is a medium sweet, then bitter dry. The body is full, the texture creamy, the carbonation lively and the finish long. Very Very Good!!!

flatmatt (1593) - Northville, Michigan, USA - JUN 23, 2017
12 oz bottle. Pours a clear red-hued amber with a yellowy off-white head. Molasses, bourbon, caramel aromas. Bourbon, caramel, molasses flavor, toasty malt. It’s definitely good.
