Vintage 2009. Bottle poured into a snifter. Pours a tawny, rusty amber with just a sheet of lace on top. Good amount of bubbles rising up, even after 3 years in the dark. The aroma has a slight musty scent, but the oak and vanilla come through on the finish. Subtle bourbon notes invite me to partake. Heavy feel as this one is a sipper. Rich, syrup-like feel coats the palate. The bourbon character has held its own after time passed. It may not be as powerful, but there are nice sweet flavors of vanilla, caramel, toffee noted. The hop presence has faded, but there still lingers hints of bitterness that round out the sweet character of this one. This beer was a treat to sip. Would have been great to do a side-by-side with a ’12, but I can’t have everything...

UPDATED: OCT 13, 2017 Aroma of caramel and bourbon, very smooth malty with a hint of bitterness finishing with warming bourbon. Tad bit boozy, but only in the finish. Very well balanced bbq barleywine. Solid offering from Central Waters.

bottle. Deep amber with small head. Very sweet, big malty body. Brown sugar, caramel and dark fruit. Bourbon and oak. Boozy, but glorious. Very smooth for the ABV. Excellent. I'd imagine this ages very nicely.

Rami Rami is drinking a Brewer's Reserve Bourbon Barrel Barleywine by Central Waters Brewing Company at Muzeum Azji i Pacyfiku Jak sie otworzy lepiej, ale i tak bez szalenstw. Miodowo, goryczkowo, nieco suszono, jak nieco utleniona DIPA z nad wisly troche. Alko

12 oz. bottle picked up during a trip to NY earlier this year. Bottle says 2016 edition and I bought it in April '17 and drank it in Oct '17. So lets assume it is at least 6 months old. Poured a beautiful ruby/red/mahogany color with a thin beige head. Sort of clear when held up to the light. Strong nose of bourbon, caramel, dark fruits, vanilla and mahogany wood. Taste is quite sweet with some minor earthy hops adding a light bittering to the finish. Full bodied, yet the finish is to the dry side. Delicious!

12 oz. bottle aged about 16 months. Darker brown color, ruby highlight around the edges. Aroma is subtle bourbon, mellow oak, dried apples and fruity hints. Flavor shows me dried fruits, plums, warming alcohol, after the sip. Aged just log enough.

This is a big and complex barley wine. Flavorful bourbon without the burn. Can't tell what bourbon barrel this is but... absolutely delicious!

355ml bottle (thx, Chris S.!). Vintage 2015. Pours a murky amber with a tan head. Aroma is huse bourbon and fruity notes. Taste is similar with lots of chocolate, hoppy bitterness and boozy notes. Still quite boozy, but this booziness is quite pleasant and compensated by high palate. Great stuff!

marcus (10560) - Sacramento, California, USA - AUG 9, 2017
On tap at Local Option. Pours near black with a thick clinging tan head and a fruity treacle aroma. There is a full-bodied dark molasses flavor with a very warm finish. This is a big beer that is well-designed with a lot of bourbon.

Bottle. Red brown with quickly fading beige head. Bourbon, caramel, vanilla, dried cherries, toast, and slight alcohol aromas. Medium to strong caramel, toffee sweetness with a slight dry booze aftertaste. Heavy body with a sticky feel.

Really lends itself to the bourbon again. 2 barley wines in a row I like. What’s going on here.

Aromas of bourbon, brown sugar, dates, and vanillin oak. Taste is like aromas with some toffee and caramel.
