4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 16/20
Bottle from fear025. Murky reddish brown pour with bubbly head. Aroma is super boozy with tons of vanilla bourbon caramel and toffee. Taste is pretty sweet with lots of vanilla and coconut and bourbon. This was quite a treat.
Bottle. Deep hay amber. Short, off-white head, disappearing. Aroma of bourbon, dark fruit, oak, wet paper. The flavor is moderately to heavily sweet and lightly bitter. It finishes moderately sweet and lightly bitter. Medium to full body, velvety texture, moderate carbonation. Taste more of wood and less of bourbon, caramel, raisin, cardboard. Alcohol finish. though not as boozy as many 11 percenters. Not terribly complex. Well, this is a big, malty beer that tastes like it's been in a bourbon barrel. Woo-hoo. Bourbon barrel aged American style barleywine, older bomber at Bart's tasting in the Struise shop in Bruges. Creamy, yellowish beige, tightly lacing, closed head over a misty chestnut brown beer with ruddy-burgundy hue. Aroma of hazelnut oil, old brownies, dried blackcurrants, orange peel, old peanuts, aging dry sherry-like oxidation, dried tree leaves, brown bread, marmelade. Dried fruit sweetishness in the onset, fig- and even cherry-ish notes, blackcurrant-like sourish touch but nothing infectuous, lots of residual sugary sweetness, medium carbonation (actually on the sharp side for a barleywine, impairing the vinous mouthfeel it is supposed to have). Thick and syrupy body though, deeply nutty with a bitter chocolatey touch to it, lots of marmelade- and dried grapefruit peel-like notes in the finish, some vanilla-ish oak but low in tannins, firmly hopped, grapefruity mixed with persisting malt and sugary sweetness, followed by a glow of evidently bourbon-like warming alcohol; retronasal oxidation as well. Nice enough, but if this wants to achieve greatness among American style barleywines, it needs more depth and complexity, as well as less fizziness; probably a bit too old already as well. Bottle->snifter. Dark chestnut with small beige head. Caramel and toffee malt, oak, booze. Very tasty. jimhilt (2625) - Bow, New Hampshire, USA - OCT 17, 2017
Pours a two finger off-white head that fades slowly leaving some lace. Deep amber color. Fierce carbonation and medium bodied. Bourbon nose and flavor is sweet bourbon and hints of toffee. High ABV, 11.2%, warming, but hidden. Decent barleywine. $4.60 for a 12oz bottle from Colonial Spirits Acton, Ma. mjoneill75 (6) - - OCT 13, 2017 does not count
UPDATED: OCT 13, 2017 Aroma of caramel and bourbon, very smooth malty with a hint of bitterness finishing with warming bourbon. Tad bit boozy, but only in the finish. Very well balanced bbq barleywine. Solid offering from Central Waters.

bottle. Deep amber with small head. Very sweet, big malty body. Brown sugar, caramel and dark fruit. Bourbon and oak. Boozy, but glorious. Very smooth for the ABV. Excellent. I'd imagine this ages very nicely. rami_pl (4410) - Warszawa, POLAND - OCT 13, 2017

Jak sie otworzy lepiej, ale i tak bez szalenstw. Miodowo, goryczkowo, nieco suszono, jak nieco utleniona DIPA z nad wisly troche. Alko mcox90 (2131) - Wilton, New Hampshire, USA - OCT 6, 2017
12 oz. bottle picked up during a trip to NY earlier this year. Bottle says 2016 edition and I bought it in April '17 and drank it in Oct '17. So lets assume it is at least 6 months old. Poured a beautiful ruby/red/mahogany color with a thin beige head. Sort of clear when held up to the light. Strong nose of bourbon, caramel, dark fruits, vanilla and mahogany wood. Taste is quite sweet with some minor earthy hops adding a light bittering to the finish. Full bodied, yet the finish is to the dry side. Delicious! 12 oz. bottle aged about 16 months. Darker brown color, ruby highlight around the edges. Aroma is subtle bourbon, mellow oak, dried apples and fruity hints. Flavor shows me dried fruits, plums, warming alcohol, after the sip. Aged just log enough. beerplace (2039) - Vancouver, British Columbia, CANADA - AUG 27, 2017
This is a big and complex barley wine. Flavorful bourbon without the burn. Can't tell what bourbon barrel this is but... absolutely delicious!
355ml bottle (thx, Chris S.!). Vintage 2015. Pours a murky amber with a tan head. Aroma is huse bourbon and fruity notes. Taste is similar with lots of chocolate, hoppy bitterness and boozy notes. Still quite boozy, but this booziness is quite pleasant and compensated by high palate. Great stuff!
