Y black with khaki head. Long lasting head, bourbon and coffee aroma. Coffee taste and some caramel. Very smooth especially considering bourbon barreled beers can be big alcohol distractions.

12 oz bottle. This is a good but unexceptional BA stout. The bourbon dominates. Very good beer and props to Central Waters for making an affordable no BS (wax cap, "special release", sky-high pricing) barrel aged beer.

Very nearly a perfect barrel aged stout! I would pull out all stops and rate as high as I could go but for the thin viscosity...delicious in every other way.

4.2 AROMA 10/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
Pours a dark chestnut brown color that appears pitch black in the glass with a one finger beige head that quickly settles into a thick, lasting ring. Streaks of soapy lacing left behind.
Wow, the aroma of this beer is incredible with a complex barrel presence that’s perfectly integrated into the characteristics of the base beer. Very nice bourbon presence with dry oak, vanilla, toasted coconut and marshmallow followed by roasted malt, silky chocolate and a dessert-like fudge cake quality. Very complex and although the bourbon barrel is the strongest component, the dark malts and stout notes aren’t overpowered at all. Smells incredible! I could see some folks wanting more bourbon in the nose but to me the aroma is nearly perfect.
Full bodied with a blast of bourbon heat that lingers over the other barrel notes and roasted malt into a slightly spicy, dry finish. A bit boozier and heavier on the bourbon flavors th an the nose suggests, but the barrel character remains complex and is nicely integrated into the base beer. Some dry, charred oak followed by a strong sweet and spicy bourbon presence that’s followed by a smooth vanilla bean flavor before the roasted and sweet malt notes come in. Not as sweet or dessert like as the nose hinted at but there’s still some subtle silky chocolate flavor countering the intense roast. The rost compliments the dry oak and spicy spirit with hints of dark chocolate, burnt toast, oatmeal and espresso bean. Slightly hot with some warmth in the finish but after the palate adjusts, the high ABV is relatively well masked. Definitely a sipper but the complexity and intense flavors make it a very enjoyable drink.

Tasted this at the Valhalla Bar, 815 9th Avenue in New York on the 22nd September 2015. Keg, flight glass. Dull black in colour with a thin pale buff head. Malty on the nose with intense sweet dark chocolate notes coming through. Thin oily mouthfeel and non existent lacing. Dark malt complex gives a rich malty base with strong flavours of liquorice, dark chocolate, mocha coffee and vanilla all present in the mouth. There is just a hint of hop resins present which unlike the Lagunitas Imperial Stout, this does linger around much longer in the mouth, giving a dusty hop aftertaste. Strong malt finish with sweet dark chocolate, liquorice along with vanilla oak cask notes and a warming alcoholic burr at the end. A decent Imperial Stout but side by side tasting - I much prefer Lagunitas Imperial Stout to this one!

Tap at Butcher and the Boar with commonshawn. Tulip 12 oz pour. Dark brown into black color. Minimal tan head. Aroma is definitely boozy with nice after dinner chocolate presence and prune. Taste has chocolate and coffee qualities with the ever present bourbon alcohol riding along. More bitterness than anticipated. Rich, complex stout that carries the bourbon barrel family crest proudly. Gets better as it warms. Not sure you need more than one but that one you have is super tasty. Good effort.

4.1 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20
Pitch black pour with semi-creamy mocha colored head and lacing. One of the best bourbon barrel stouts I’ve ever smelled. Vanilla, oak, chocolate, bourbon and coffee are all there and all very good in the flavor. This is a very good beer.

4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
Bottle. Heavy malt aromas of dark bread, toasted, dark chocolate and strong coffee, light to moderate resin for the hops, moderate earth for the yeast, with prune, nutmeg, vanilla, cola, postum and bourbon. Head is small, creamy/frothy, light brown, with fair lacing and good legs, and is mostly diminishing. Color is very dark brown. Flavor starts moderately to heavily sweet and lightly acidic, then finishes moderately sweet, lightly acidic and lightly to moderately bitter. Palate is medium to full, creamy to syrupy, with a soft carbonation and a moderate alcoholic and sticky finish. Complex, if sweeter flavors and a rich feel make this a Imperial Stout to go back to anytime.
