Bottle sampled at ZEBF ’15. Pours hazy brown with a small tan head. Aroma of malts, caramel, toffee, overripe dark fruits, raisins, light wood and molasses. Bottle [2011 version] @ home. Hazy reddish color, average sized off-white to beige head. Aroma is malts, lightly sweetish alcohol, a little bitter finish. Pours a reddish brown with a ring of foam that hugged my glass. The aroma is of sweet toffee, cherry like fruit, bread grain, subtle alcohol, and some herbel hop notes. Tasting, I noticed sweet carmel like sweetner, defined crystal malt flavor, booze, and some tart notes from fruit. The finish was a blend of booze that blended with a soft acidic fruit taste and ended with a medium bitterness that lingered. Shared 2013 bomber poured to snifters displaying a fairly clear, dark brown hue, with some amber highlighting, a modest layer of off white head foam, and spots of lacing. The aroma was caramel sweetness, and esters as dried fruit & cherry, with some lurking alcohol that helped create the typical BW nose. Medium+ bodied, with fair carbonation, the flavor was sweet, booze, and moderate hop bitterness. Cellar mellowed, but quite tasty.

On tap at Tørst in Brooklyn, served in a stem glass. Pours clear reddish-brown with a tall tan head that remains and leaves lots of fine lace. The nose has big brown sugar and herbal notes, with subtle fruit and medium resinous hops, yeast, bread and biscuity malts. The flavour is very well balanced between hoppy and fruity-molasses notes. It begins medium-sweet up front with dark fruit but soon becomes medium-bitter with resin, pine and softer raisins and figs. The finish is long and hoppy, with a moderate bitter resinous character. On the palate it is full in body with a smooth, creamy texture and soft carbonation. "lots of fruit and spicy hops in the flavor. some of the same in the aroma with some toffee like scents as well. prickly feel, on the sweet side, but quite good. the barreled version, though, was fantastic."
