This smooth amber ale with it's mellow nutty flavor, subtle flowery nose, and delightful malty finish should appeal even to the newest of specialty beer drinkers.Named for the Algonquin word for the Wisconsin River, Ouisconsing Red makes even our neighbors to the south and west "want to be a Badger".

I picked up this 12 oz. bottle with some others when my wife and I went on a 6 day road trip to Madison, WI for the Great Taste of the Midwest in 07. The beer pours a slightly cloudy dark red with an off white head and silky lacing. The nose not only hops and malt but also n some off-putting sour notes. The beer taste good. But it could taste a lot better. I can tell it had good hop and malt balance but the sourness from the aroma is there in the flavor as well. I did hang on to it to long but you would think a red ale that is well hopped beer like this one would up more than 5 months (most the time under refrigeration). I had a similar problem with another CW beer. Short shelf life could mean there were (or are) some issue at the brewery. I will try it again next time I find some.

On tap. Pours a clear amber red with a near white head that dissipates slowly to the edges and laces. Aroma has lots of straw with grass and a touch of pine. Flavor has grass, light pine and a bit of straw.

Not much I can say here. Really sweet. Lacking any kind of a hop balance. Why in the hell did you bottle this? Sucks balls.

UPDATED: JUL 11, 2016 12oz bottle to tulip. Pours bright clouded mahogany, white soapy head. Aroma of fig, brown sugar, pecan, red malts, caramel and raisin. Taste of same. Hop bitter dry finish. Mouthfeel is mod oily.

Amber pour with a nice but quickly dissolving head. Fairly bitter start to finish, not as malty as expected. Almost a hint of spice and slightly citrus aroma, but not really that much going on. Just ok. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Bottle: Hazy amber with a thin, off-white head. Caramel malt, a bit of bread in the aroma. Taste is earthy, caramel malt, nuts.... Fairly rich....not bad.

Pretty dismal in my opinion. Pretty flat tasting. Not anything redeeming about it.

Bottle. Lactic nutty toffee malt and straw aroma. Amber with moderate head. Sweet nutty toffee malt and mildly bitter herbal hay flavor. Nice body. Very pleasant.

Weak head, dissipates fast. Not much aroma, maybe some malt. taste is nuttiness followed quickly by pretzel yeast, then gone. Not a hint of malt sweetness/clover/floral. Boring and disappointing. But it is drinkable so thats a plus.

Pours hazy copper brown, brief white head, nice effervescence. Aroma slightly sweet, biscuit, caramel malt. Taste follows, but with a solid hop backbone (usually its the malt providing structure and balance to a featured hop profile... this is the reverse.) Palate is faintly sweet syrupy. Overall... ad I have become increasingly disenchanted with ambers... this one aint bad. That hop backbone keeps it from being overly sweet and one dimensional.
