UPDATED: JUN 2, 2017 I bought this bottle at Boissons Service at Malley. I was happy to sse that I was able to get the stout of them. Of course, it is not a big surprise, if the half Portugal live in Switzerland, even though we still don’t find theirs own craft beers in Switzerland. This one is not the best stout that I tried. For the style, it is a simple one, few roasted malt, lack of aromas, a bit rough and watery, some hop, the body is as usual a nice view for your eyes, thin and brown head. 01.06.17 I drank it a second time, I could say that it is not really a stout, the taste is really boring for the style, rough malt, not toasted, no coffee, no vanilla, watery, few hop, the aromz and taste are located in the Greek hades under the floor, ok it is an industrial brewery, but you really have better products at the same industrial level. On tap in @Aperitivo, Faro. Little bit aroma of caramel. Black color, cloudy liquid, brown color. Lightly bitter, taste of coffee, dark chocolate. light body, flat carbonation. Very weak stout. Gangstergafje (1142) - Capelle aan den IJssel, NETHERLANDS - APR 6, 2017
The beer looks nice. The color of the beer itself is very dark brown, almost black. Strong light reveals a hint of ruby red, but not as much as in other beers. The beer is quite clear. On top of the beer some almond coloured foam is formed. The majority of the foam disappears rather quickly, leaving a thin drape.
The smell of the beer isn’t bad. It isn’t extremely strong, but there are some nice aroma’s. I smell some nice roasted malts, bringing aromas of chocolate, some coffee and caramel and some toast. The toastiness gives the beer a savoury touch. I also smell some red fruits. Nice with the roast. Some hoppy aroma’s are there, freshening up the beer, but the are scarce.
The taste of the beer is pretty much the same. I taste some nice tasty malts, giving bitterness and sweetness and a tiny savoury touch. The sweetness of chocolate balances the toasty bitters and the hop bitters. All is in pretty good balance. Smell and taste are a bit watery for my taste. You can tell it is a beer produced in large scale. Craft beer stouts and schwarzbieren are more flavourful and aromatic.
The palate of the beer is also rather mediocre. Medium light body and carbonation, rather thin and watery texture. The finish is a bit watery to and not that long. All in all, a nice interpretation of stout, but brewed on a to large scale. But, for a large scale beer it sure ain’t bad.
