750 ml bottle from erway- thanks a ton, Jeff, for this rarity! Shared it at Dark Lord Day 2011 with some fellow Ratebeerians. Bottle 49/586. Pours an oily, dark, almost opaque brown out of the bottle with a small dark tan head. Aroma of rich chocolate, roasted malts, oak, red wine notes, and some sweet caramel and brown sugar notes. Flavor of chocolate, oak, red wine, plums, coffee, caramel, and brown sugar. Full-bodied, with low carbonation and a smooth mouthfeel with just a little grape tartness on the sides. This beer really delivers what it describes on the bottle in great balance. Very smooth and enjoyable. arminjewell (9675) - East Lansing, Michigan, USA - MAY 1, 2011
DLD ’11, bottle huge thanks to Peter. Aroma has notes of chocolate, grape skin, wine, some coffee, roast and sweet caramel notes. Taste is chocolate, grapes, some slight oak and wine notes, slight vinegar with coffee and roast balancing out. Pretty good, not my favorite style but the sour takes a backseat and actually compliments the roast and chocolate notes well. goldtwins (4320) - Nesconset, New York, USA - MAR 10, 2010
Poured a deep brown almost opaque color with a tan head. Aroma of vanilla and chocolate with nice roasted malt as a base. Light notes of alcohol. The flavor was very nice. Notes of roasted malt and bourbon. Vanilla taste with a light tartness from the bourbon. Smooth mouthfeel with a medium-full body. Warming in the chest.

Roast and hop aromas. Black strong in alcohol and hoppy. A little sweet on the palate with a crisp and bitter malt finish. BeerandBlues2 (13323) - Escondido, California, USA - OCT 11, 2009
GABF 2009. Pours black with a small, frothy dark brown head, somewhat diminishing with fair lacing. Aroma is heavy malt (molasses, caramel, toasted grain), average hop (herbs, grass), average yeast (leather, earth) with notes of prune, plum, wine, wood, and charcoal. Full bodied, creamy texture, average carbonation, and an astringent finish. Average duration, moderate sweetness, acidity, and bitterness. malrubius (2900) - Springfield, Vermont, USA - JUL 31, 2009
Time to catch up before BCTC. Bottle at PilsnerPeter’s Spring Throwdown. Thank to everyone who brought great beer and ribs and pickles and everything! Black with ring. Chocolate coffee wood aroma. Woody chocolate coffee with mild fruit. Nice and rich. Very good. Dickinsonbeer (5074) - Hoboken, New Jersey, USA - JUL 26, 2009
Bomber from yobdoog at PPRBSG-. Pours a deep dark oily viscous black with almost a violet highlight as it pours and a thin lasting deep tan head. Aroma is bourbon, sharp toasted malts, roasty and good fresh chocolate malt- big on the fruitiness as well, aloing with a red wine like tannic hint- oak and vanilla come out a bit more as it warms as does the burny bourbon. Flavor is a bit bigger in the vanilla, and oak- also more wine and fruit- big nutty roasty coffee like burnt malts as well- slight licorice spicy kick and tarry and tannic in the end with a bourbon alcohol kick. Big BA imperial stout with lots of tannins all the way through- nice though. decaturstevo (6244) - decatur, Tennessee, USA - JUN 30, 2009
Dark brown pour with off white/tan head and lace. Chocolate, coffee, and roasted malt aroma. Medium sweet chocolate with what I thought was BB but it appears not to be the case. A medium full bodied beer. Very nice.
