UPDATED: SEP 17, 2007 ******************Re-rate... Bottle... Murky, caramel-colored ale with a small, fizzy, khaki head. Dark-fruity nose of raisins, cocoa and dried plum with a tin can twang. Leans just a hair on the bitter side of balance with mild tanginess. Chocolaty flavor with a touch of vanilla. Almost medium-bodied with a thin, watery mouthfeel and fizzy carbonation. Finishes crisp and then dry. A big SHOUT goes out to erway for shipping the bottle down my way!***************** Original rating... Draft... GABF ’06... Hazy yellow ale with a small, creamy, white head. Funky, phenolic nose; banana and spice. DMS flavor; a little fishy... don’t like that at all. Moderately sweet, moderately bitter; good balance. Poured an amber color with a medium sized, off white head that left light lacing on the glass. Aroma was musty, earthy, some vanilla, sour cherry, and toffee malts. Hand bottle courtesy of zuchinicat. Pours a light brown with an off white head. Smells rosey with some nutty undertones. Tastes of tarte malt, some fruit and spice. Mouthfeel is tingly. A good beer, but not what I expect out of a dubbel.

UPDATED: AUG 20, 2004 tap at brewpup-I got to sample this from my buddy’s glass, so i only took 2 sips. Very good dubbel-dark amber hue with minimal head and light carbonation. very sweet palate with a slightly hot finish (alcohol). ReRate-Bomber hand bottled from Ted Rice, the head brewer-pours a brown hue with nice sudsy tan head-high carbonation on this one. aroma is belgian yeast, roasted malts, and subtle hops. the flavors dont really resemble a dubbel, but more a roasted amber ale. after the beer warms, i get apple and woody notes. Thanks Ted for the bomber!
UPDATED: JAN 11, 2007 Draught. Mahogany body and velvety head. Has elements of blackberries, all-spice, and light smoke. Fruity but esters are indistinct. Bottle-conditioned. Poured a thick, frothy off-white head and mahogany body with moderate carbonation. Aroma is leathery plus a Scottish malt quality with some light fruitiness. Rich malty flavor of nuts, chocolate, and dried plums. Full bodied and sweet with just enough tartness to keep it clean. Clearly an American rendition because it lacks the funky yeastiness of a genuine Belgian-brewed dubbel, but I really enjoyed this. 8,4,8,4,15 = 3.9.
Courtesy hopscotch. Pours a cloudy brown with a small light brown head. Smells of dark malts, caramel, molasses, and some sweet dark fruits. Tastes of big caramel malts, dark berries, a little molasses, and a little wood. The finish is a little woodsy as well, mildly sweet, and oaky. Courtesy hopscotch. Hazy, burnt amber/brown and a small dense tan head. Aroma and flavor of toasty bread, lightly zesty yeast, past ripe dark fruit, small dose of roasty malt. Bottle (thanks argo0). Very large, soapy head. Deep brown, with slight haze and particulate matter. Aroma is yeast, fruit, spice. Good malty flavor--caramel, brown sugar, yeast. Slight alcohol and spice at the end.
