ThaiBev stopped production of Archa, Chang Beer, Chang Draught, and Chang Export in 2015. A new product, Chang Classic, was launched, with production shared between ThaiBevs three breweries. The recipe was changed to include rice, previously only used in the domestic 6.4% version. It is sold as 5.5% abv in some markets.
"With its attractive taste and a price that appealed to consumers at all levels, the response and success of Chang marked a new era and turned a new page for the Thai beer industry. In 1998 Beer Chang was awarded the Gold Medallion at the International Beer Competition in Australia in the category of Lager, Unlimited Degree.

A thin head on a clear, medium straw colored body. No head left within 20 seconds of the pour. The aroma is mowed yard grass and honey. Wow, the taste has a bold metallic flavor upfront... and that continues to the end. The texture is crisp with moderate carbonation. Well, its one of the worst adjunct lagers Ive had.

Noble hop hay and citrusy on the nose, higher light malt/grainy sweetness, very light bitterness. Balance towards malt, not as refreshing.

Had it from a bottle. Clearly an industrialized beer, with little personality. On the Lager scale is not so bad. Better served ice cold. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Not sure when this was retired - I just picked up a single from Corks & Kegs in Richmond. Its definitely bottled as Chang Beer. Pours golden with a small white head. Aroma of corn chips (and shit, now I have a Fritos craving). Flavor is pretty bad... envelope glue, the mint kinda even, along with corn, rice water, and paper. I cant give this above an overall 1 - the flavor of this is beer is one of the worst Ive had in my mouth.

Bottle sample from backlog notes. Pours a clear golden color with a small white head. The aroma and flavor have grainy malts, grass, skunky notes, just not good.

Drank way to many Samuel Adams. But this one comes from sentimental value. So thank you Cpt. Julian I greatly appreciate it. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Pale yellow pour with quick, hitter foam. Sweet cereal malt in the nose with a little grassy hops. The body is light and fizz moderate. The balance tips toward the hops and the finish is clean. There is a little lingering sweetness.

Review: 330 ml Bottle of Chang Beer Export: ABV: 5% With a nice logo of two big elephants facing each other on its label, Chang is the Thai word for elephant, an important animal in Thailand as a symbol of both power and peace. On pour we get a nice clear yellow colour, with a big frothy white head that is decent enough, and which settles down but maintains. A lot of carbonation, very bubbly and lively No real lacing. Overall, not a bad looking beer On the nose I get an initial sweet piercing smell of lemon but overall not so strong, very faint. A beery smell, sweet grains, hay, lemon, malts, all good on the nose, but as I mentioned not so strong..... Taste is bittersweet, soft, clean and relatively easy to drink. Some light grains, but not enough to really get excited about. Bit of an aftertaste, all bitter. Stringent sweet malts Too sweet for my liking, and the tastes are not well balanced. Not a great beer, very little to actually taste. Ok it is a little sessionable, but overall it is not really enjoyable. Bland. I am not a fan. Apparently the home brew version is meant to be better than the export version, brewed with rice rather than malt, and is a 6.4% strength lager. Perhaps another inspection is needed, on a beach in Pattaya supping an ice cold beer enjoying the sun......
