Domestic product, retired in Summer 2015.
ThaiBev stopped production of Archa, Chang Beer, Chang Draught, and Chang Export in 2015. A new product, Chang Classic, was launched, with production shared between ThaiBev’s three breweries. The recipe of Chang Beer was changed to include rice, previously only used in the domestic 6.4% version. It is sold as 5.5% abv in some markets.
Chang was made with the vision of the top executives to expand the beer market with a Thai taste albeit with international quality, to give the consumers an alternative with the fervent belief in the brewing and production capability of the Thais. With its attractive taste and a price that appealed to consumers at all levels, the response and success of Beer Chang marked a new era and turned a new page for the Thai beer industry. In 1998 Beer Chang was awarded the “Gold Medallion” at the International Beer Competition in Australia in the category of “Lager, Unlimited Degree”. Since then, Beer Chang has become known as “the international Gold Medallion winner beer of Thailand”. Note: alcohol content may vary

Bottle sample at a tasting at the Beer & Beyond shop. Thanks troubles. Clear golden with a small white head. Aroma is a bit alcoholic, grainy, sweet, with light honey-ish notes. Sweet grainy flavor, a bit alcoholic, with a light unpleasant bitterness in the finish. Light-bodied and alcoholic.

640ml bottle in Koh Phangnan, Thailand (100 Baht):
Light grain and some faint hops on the nose with some very light skunk. There is some sweetness and corn with a faint hint of alcohol as well.
Clear, golden straw colour with a thin, 1cm head that settles as a patchy looking lacing after thirty seconds.
Lager malts with some grain, a few adjuncts and a very small taste of alcohol that was to be epected going by the abv. on the bottle. There is a hint of hops and a semi-bitterness with some grassy flavours and a bit of citrus.
Smooth for the most part bar the touches of grain. There is some alcohol but it is better hidden than I expected. Medium carbonation compliments a light body and there is a slight citrus tang together with a crisp and very clean feel.

A solid Asian beer and my go-to beer anytime I am in the region as it is so much better than the export version that makes its way to Europe and the UK. It’s not outstanding by any means but it is a good beer with a nice alcohol kick that soon catches up on you once you’ve had a few.

Day five of the malt liquor excursion through the jungles of Bangkok. Big bottle at a bar, didn’t realize it was a malt liquor but now it makes perfect sense because seriously this was the eggiest beer I’ve ever had. Some green apple too in the aroma and flavour was sweet malt, alcohol, and rotten egg. Absolutely disgusting, I miss Cambodian beers.

640 ml bottle 6.4%. This is a typical asian pale lager style, why anyone would label this a malt liquer is beyond me. Not a bad asian lager as it is, alcohol is noticeable but otherwise the high abv comes as a surprise (unless you read it on the label). Really not any worse than singha, tiger et al. and certainly better than the watered down 5.0% export version.

Fairly good lager, nothing special. Perfect for a warm and humid night. Thailands pride, it said. Not sure. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Rich golden color. White head fizzles away to a ring. Rich, malty aroma. Taste is a little bit of sour grain as is to be expected from a high gravity malt liquor. 2 tallboys on the island...

DietPepsican (1591) - @ $13.99, Iowa, USA - APR 22, 2013
Changed pretty hard just now. Yellow fizzy pour with a white head. Clean flavor on this one, not much weirdness going on but doesn’t quite hit mat liquor territory at all. Almost no bitterness, just some light dough and a bit of earthiness. Not bad really.

33cl bottle. Pours golden with a very thin head. Sweet malty flavour, grassy. Flavour is sweet with some alcohol notes.

hfmejias (1283) - Marshall, Minnesota, USA - MAR 30, 2013
11.15 Fl. Oz. Bottle. Poured a pale yellow, clear and with a thick white head and lots of lacing. Aroma is almost not existent, some hint of yeast (bread) and a bit of malts. Taste is also quite dull not much to it, some sweetness and slight bitterness towards the end. Just another beer made with the purpose of being a refreshing beverage in a warm weather and in that sense it does serves it’s purpose.

kryon (3558) - Hässelby, SWEDEN - MAR 27, 2013
Pours piss yellow with no head Aromas of some malts, hints of corn and syrup Has a bit of alcohol sting, there is also some malt body which makes it quite nice and round. Low bitterness, low to medium sweet Actually quite alright
