American Pale Ale is not only the standard but the foundry for what has inspired the craft beer movement. Here at Charleville we wanted to celebrate the beer style that stands as the corner stone for what has made American craft brewing so great. Our Explicit APA is brewed with five additions of hops prior to the wort passing through the Hopback on its way to fermentation. To complete this full bodied ale dry hops are added during cold maturation to create a hop forward ale, with a transcendental copper hue. 14 Plato ƒ row, Carapils and Crystal malts) 30 IBU (Cascade and Centennial hops)

EtTuCthulhu (1391) - Columbia, Missouri, USA - FEB 24, 2014
The color is a cloudy--nearly opaque--orange with a large white head and dark sediment floating throughout. The aroma belnds caramel malts and resin and floral hops, and the taste is quite bitter and slightly sour. The palate fuses a medium body, average carbonation, thick texture, and a slightly bitter finish.

Finhead (1849) - OFallon, Illinois, USA - JAN 9, 2014
Hazy, gold pour with a large, frothy head. The aroma is all hops with notes of pine and grass. It has a light, watery body with average carbonation. The taste is mildly bitter but also a little flat.

Bottle poured into a shaker. Pours a clear, dark orange with 2 fingers of bright white head. Aroma of dank citrus hops. Taste is heavily bitter. Pine and citrus with loads of grapefruit. Medium bodied with a somewhat thin texture. Lively carbonation and a long finish. Overall, not bad. May be a bit past it’s prime though.

bottle... dark gold with lots of copper, watery light tan head... reminds me of english beer, really light, has a tea quality, mostly toffee malt, hops are only an accent... boring

Thanks to Keir for this one as an extra. Cheers, Keir! Pours a caramel orange with a foamy white head. Nose is caramel, slight background hops, and tropical fruit. Flavor is slight caramel, slight citrus, apricot, and some tropical fruit. Light in body with some mild hops in the finish.

jandd1983 (4690) - Wentzville, Missouri, USA - OCT 10, 2011
It poured a hazy golden color with an off-white head. The aroma was fruity with some caramel, grain and light hops. The taste was fruity with orange hops and some grain. A very decent APA.

hayduke (5732) - Eureka, California, USA - OCT 4, 2011
Bottle courtesy of Strykzone. Pours a clear rich amber with a really aggressive off-white head that lasted a long time and left good lacing. The nose is caramel malts with citrus hops. Medium in body and light in mouthfeel. Flavor is a good balance between roasted caramel malts and citrus and floral hops. Mild bitter finish. Well done APAs are a delight. This is a good one.

bhensonb (15990) - Woodland, California, USA - SEP 25, 2011
Bomber from Wine & Cheese in Clayton, MO. Pours clear amber with a foamy 4 finger off-white head. Aroma through the foam is light citrus over mild caramel. Med body. Flavor is somewhat roasted malt with citrus and floral hop. Nailed the style. Definitely more bitter than not.
