Rastacouere (6177) - Montreal, Quebec, - JUN 11, 2012
UPDATED: AUG 19, 2013 Beautiful white tower above the just as beautiful cloudy blonde pour. Fragrant, almost perfumey nose where cracker-like malts are quickly taken over by the intensely yeasty aromas that bring a broad fruit array, white dough and an intricate spicy complexity that bears more than a little of the Charlevoix house character (kinda lemony coriander-cinnamon notes surrounded by sweetish pie dough). In mouth, the larger than average bubbles feel authentic, if perhaps not as agressive than in many Belgian examples. The malt character is full, procuring a very forward breadiness that feels pastry-like and makes this Saison thicker than average, but agreeably so and still drinkable a plenty. It is accompanied by a serious hoppiness at the same time, adding citrusy notes and a limited, balanced bitterness that adds to the dryness perception when paired with the carbonation. Curious how one sip calls for another. They must have nailed this one pretty well, it has kept the distinctive Charlevoix character while highlighting nicely the contributions of each ingredients and remaining very drinkable. And the price tag feels easy enough at comfortably less than 10$ per 750 ml. That’s actually something I’ll buy regularly this Summer. A welcome addition to the already neat DV line.

I decide to try all of beers available from this brewery after the success from the Lupulus. The saison is a nice attempt. I had some good sip with a great supper in great company in a gift glass and enjoying our nice September weather.

Moi, personnellement, je n’ai pas aimé cette bière. Elle était beaucoup trop amère, mais c’est une saison, c’est un peu normal... C’est juste vraiment pas dans mes goûts.

Slightly hazy straw color with low activity. Foamy white 3 finger head, lasting around 10 minutes, with strong legs. Fresh floral and fruity scent. Flavors of strawberries, banana, tropical fruits, pears, peach, and citrus wow. Fresh fruity vinous sugary feel with a citrus sharpness, well balanced. Slick medium body with champagne like carbonation. Strong spicy finish of moderate length, ending with a powerful dash of spices that lingers a little but clears out quickly. Overall an excellent craft having a pleasant bouquet and very good flavors. A little bit overly spicy but still the freshness is quite good and smooth to drink.

The Etruscan (704) - Tuscany, ITALY - MAR 26, 2016
Huge full lasting off white head. Honey orange colour. Flavor is moderately hoppy with herbal, fruity (tangerines and apricots) with spicy (pink pepper) and light bready notes. Flavor is moderately malty with fruity (tangerines, plumes) and spicy tones, ending in a moderately hoppy and slightly spicy finish. Light to medium bodied.

Pours a very slightly cloudy blonde with a vicious head, even meatier than your standard saison. Once it died down I’m getting citrus, yeast but not a heavy smell, but it might be my nose today. The taste delivers some bitterness that hides a heavier sweet-citrus malt under. The yeast that should be there get lost. It’s ... ok.

Tap at Erzbierschof Zurich. Citric grassy aroma with hints of funky saison yeast. Oily medium body. Some bitterness, a tad of sourness. Still grassy on the palate, like spring. Nice!

ChtiBreizh (456) - Rennes, FRANCE - JAN 17, 2016
75 cl bottle. Pours golden with a long lasting frothy head. Aroma is yeasty, spicy, some farmhouse. Rather sweet with a drier and medium to low bitter finish. Strong carbonatio,, medium bodied. A fine belgian ale but not that funky for a saison.

ciocanelu (2855) - Timisoara, ROMANIA - JAN 6, 2016
Slightly hazy golden color with fluffy, white head. Aroma has yeast notes, malts, a bit of honey sweetness and a bit of farmhouse character. Taste starts with honey, malt and yeast notes and gets slightly bitter in the finish. Medium body with crisp carbonation. Very well made, rustic and earthy saison.

Nice head, good lacing. Malty aroma, hay, grain. Light hops, medium yeasty, dough and bit of barnyard. Notes of honey, coriander and little clove and pepper. Medium sweet, light bitter, light acidic. Medium body, oily texture. Wish it was a bit more sour.

Bottle. Golden, hazy, average to large and mostly lasting head. Moderate malty - lightly wheaty and lightly sweetish aroma, light fruitiness and faint citrus, faint - light spiciness (coriander), light - some herbal hoppyness, light yeast. Body is medium, malty - lightly wheaty and lightly sweetish flavor, light fruitiness and faint citrus with faint spiciness, light hoppyness. Finish is average to long, malty - lightly wheaty and lightly sweetish, light fruitiness and faint citrus, light spiciness and hoppyness, light yeast. Could be drier with more bitterness. Nice head though.
