In short: A very roasted oatmeal stout, typical in style but superior in quality. Very good
How: Tap at Vices & Versa, Montreal
The look: Black body topped by a medium beige head with medium retention
In long: Strong roasted nose (burnt toasts and such) over a bit of chocolate. Tastes is a mountain of very roasted oatmeal, some usual coffee notes and a bit of black chocolate. Creamy and full body with a nice medium carbonation. Low sweetness sensation, scarily easy to drink. Nothing out of the ordinary as far as the flavors are concerned, but in this pint everything worked just perfectly for the style. This beer is a serious challenger to our classic local St-Ambroise Oatmeal Stout. That was three new good beers in a row at Vices & Versa, wow! I don’t know if it was the beautiful day on the pub patio or the 6 pints of beer I just drank, but I was feeling as good as a dude who just drank 6 pints of beer.

On tap at Bateau de Nuit. Sort of syrupy looking black pour with brown head. Enticing aroma of coffee, licorice and pure dark chocolate. The roasted malt character comes out almost smoky. Taste is bitter, light fruity sweetness in he beginning but followed by lots of dark chocolate, burnt toast and coffee. Palate is rich carbonation is smooth and creamy. A very enjoyable almost imperial stout.
